As my subject line indicates, I am frustrated right now. I don't know what to do. My body just won't work like it should.
I haven't had a real period since this past July. I spotted for five straight days or so in October, but I never actually got a flow. It's now almost January, and my body is showing absolutely no signs of getting ready to work.
I used Provera and took the Pill many years ago, and I did not like the side effects I experienced nor did I like how the pills didn't solve anything. They only provided very temporary solutions to a more permanent problem.
Consequently, because I don't want to take Provera or the Pill, I've since tried a multitude of different things trying to get my period to come back. I've taken Vitex. I've taken Cinnamon and Dong Quai supplements. I have drank so much parsley and ginger tea that even looking at those tea ingredients makes my stomach turn. I've tried drinking raspberry leaf and Women's Liberty teas. They haven't helped me yet. I keep reading how Vitex and these teas have made other people have normal cycles, and I want to believe it will help me get a normal cycle too, but it never does
In addition to Vitex, Dong Quai, and a number of teas, I have also tried Natural Progesterone Cream (NPC). Although it wasn't as heavy as a normal period, NPC did give me a period. I was hesitant to use it more than once though because I'm not sure how safe it is to use NPC too often. I don't want to mess up my hormones even more than they are already messed up by adding progesterone through NPC use. I'm considering using it again though and trying it for two cycles to see if it can help my body start working. Can NPC use teach one's body to start producing more progesterone on its own after the product's use is discontinued?
I wish I could just get my body to work like it should. I am not trying to conceive nor am I am sexually active, so pregnancy isn't an issue when it comes to my non-existent cycles. I just want my body to start doing naturally what a woman's body should do. I hate feeling bloated all the time and knowing that something isn't right because my cycles are so long and abnormal.

I know exactly how you feel... some remedies esp natural take much longer than regular ones
What's your diet like? Have you had your hormones tested? what were the results? are you taking multi vitamin, when I eat healthy and take vitamins my periods usually come
Why don't you try this diet for awhile (if your estrogen levels are high then skip the cheese and tofu though)
Monday - Friday
Breakfast: Organic Whole Milk / High Fiber Cereal / Shredded Almonds
I've had my hormones tested. Supposedly, they are "normal," but something is clearly wrong.
My diet is lousy, and I know it. I've never tried tofu. I love carbs and sweets. I have never been much of a vegetable eater. I can be a very picky eater as well, although I have improved in that respect over the past couple of years. I take vitamins every day, but I definitely struggle when it comes to dealing with a sweet tooth and major desire to eat carbs.
Diet plays a major role in your hormones and periods... I've found when I eat healthy and take fish oil pills and vitamins I get periods
Try swtiching to brown rice, whole grain / wheat breat, buckwheat
As far as sweet goes try mixing them with fruits like low fat cheese cake with FRESH strawberries or blueberries
Also try low fat organic ice creams or fruit bars
I know I have the same issues with sweets and carbs.. it helps if you start out by seeking healthier alterantives.. slowly as your body and blood sugar adjusts it will get easier to ween at carbs.. also try the apple cider vinegar.. that should help in regards to this
Is there anything on the diet you see that you may like or want to try?
What kinds of food do you like? Maybe I can make healthy alternatives for you?
My favorite foods are things like lasagna and chocolate. I also struggle with loving soda too much.
I really like chicken, and I like fruits such as strawberries, grapes, and bananas. I do not enjoy cooking, but I do realize that I need to reduce the amount of fast food I eat. Consequently, I tried Slim-Fast shakes, and while they don't taste great to me, I find that I can tolerate them and that adding fruit or natural peanut butter to the shakes helps them taste better.
You mention apple cider vinegar. How do you take this? Do you drink it as is, or do you use it in some other form?
Do you have a low fat cheesecake recipe that you particularly like?
Thanks for your responses.

Apple Cider Vinegar helps with Insulin Resistance -- that's why your blood sugar gets crazy and you crave carbs and sweets
What I do is take half a spoon of honey, two spoons of apple cider vinegar and water... mix it together and drink it every other day
No slim fast shakes they have way to many carbs sugar and soduim etc.
Try mixing liquid amino acids, mega green powder, flaxseed oil with ligans (these regulate your hormones whenever I take my omegas I get my period in conjuction with eating healthy) frozen berries and ice or greek yogurt if you like your smoothies creamy
And here are some healthy alternatives for you--
-Use whole wheat pasta with lasgna and add tons of veggies to it.. stick with feta and goat cheese
-Buy organic only -- Regular food is processed with hormones etc. Organic foods are healthier (try shopping at whole foods if one is near you)
-If you must eat fast food order salad -- ask for low fat dressing, dont' get anything fried, no cheese and no croutons drink - water bottle
Yes their are plenty of recipes look up low carb cheesecake for diabetics -- PCOS people have simliar diets
If you eat organic, you can buy ready made healthy frozen meals and you won't have to cook

Diet has a big role in getting AF.
Several years ago, I decided to uproot myself from the US and move to the Caribbean. For a year or two prior to this move, I did not get AF more than 2-3 times per year. One of the biggest changes that I was forced to make was cutting out fast food. There is only 1 Burger King, 1 Subway, and a few KFC on the island. There are no drive thru's, so no convenience. Within 3 months, I got my first AF in about 9 months.
Now I have given up drinking soft drinks, have one glass of fresh fruit juice per day, and sometimes a glass of tea. I may not get aF every 28 days, but she does come on a regular cycle of about 45 days.
But also how much do you exercise? How much activity do you get in your life? Even a simple 30 minute walk can help stimulate your metabolism and hormones.

You can also use cinnamon for this as well. I sprinkle cinnamon on my cereal or oatmeal every morning. If I make whole wheat pancakes, I sprinkle it on them as well. (My DSS loves pancakes). There are times when I will boil powdered cinnamon or a cinnamon stick in hot water for tea.
