anyone heard of this book? In my circle of online people, I have found many praising this book. Now these people are not pcos nor have to ttc- they have regular cycles and just conceive from bding with their DH..but I was wondering if anyone here has heard of this book..I know low carb is best for pcos but this book talks about soaking grains/flours before using to break up some type of acid so better for the body and I wondered if them being better would also mean ok for us pcosers?

any help appreciated.

That book has helped me a lot in terms of poor digestion, candida/yeast, lack of assimilation, food allergies and so on. I really feel part of why I am able to ovulate now, have an easier time weigh weight loss, flatter abs, etc is because of that book. I soak all of my grain, eat fermented foods (at least a serving a day) eat good fats by the spoon full and so on and I've never felt better though it’s always a work in progress.

A holistic nutritionist recommended it to me. HTH

I think it really depends on your health issues. For me, it was poor digestion.

I think it's a great book, very informative and I love its emphasis on whole foods and real foods. I really feel satisfied when I eat this way, though my meals aren't quite as meat and dairy heavy as the book recommends.

I absolutely love this book. I think the areas which talk about soaking grains and legumes is really important for us because the fermentation/soaking process frees up many B vitamins, including inositol which assists with blood sugar metabolism. That said I haven't actually been doing this.....haven't had the time/motivation. I should though!

You know, it actually doesn’t require much time; I just put my nuts/rice, whatever in a bowl, add water and go to work, bed, or whatever I have to do. Now remembering to do it is a different story, LOL.

Making fermented foods, doesn’t require much time. Like with raw sour kraut. The prep time is like 10 minutes and about 1-2 minutes a day (or every few days because my house stay so cold).

Hey Ellialex,

Do you put whey in with the beans/rice to lacto-ferment? You are right.....it isn't much time! Just put the stuff in water and walk away until you're going to cook it. I am going to do this!

What other fermented foods do you make? I've made kefir which I enjoyed (I enjoy store bought more though), homemade yogurt, and I tried to make sauerkraut but it didn't turn out well. I'd really like to try making natto one day!

I haven’t done the lacto-ferment thing yet. I just soak them to make it more digestible. I don’t eat or like beans so that part isn’t an issue!

I made coconut milk yogurt (plain organic coconut milk, no fillers) and kimchee. I want to make kombucha - I buy so much of it, it would be nice to save money. Everything else I buy, but I want to start making more.

Have you found soaking the grains to be better for pcos ladies....so we can finally eat bread and such again? Have you lost weight eating the NT way? Has your cycle regulated to be a normal amount of time and ovulating each and every month by eating the NT way?

thanks,

I have digestive issues so I eat very little processed carbs so no breads, pasta, etc. I dont eat any gluten either. My grains are mostly brown, red, black and wild rice, quinoa and millet. Soaking that and nuts and seed help with the absorption and digestion process (sorry I can’t be more technical!).

Yes, I have lost weight eating NT. I also do ovulate on a regular basis, though it’s still around cd19 but its better than later or not at all like it used to be. I don’t partake in dairy (except for raw and organic grass fed butter and gee) and I don’t like hard core meat like beef, lamb, etc but I do eat organic chicken, grass fed chicken free-range eggs and fish. I take virgin coconut 3x a day, CLO, eat whole foods, fermented foods, etc. For me, I think the part of NT that has made the biggest difference is the intake of fermented foods, soaking, getting enough protein from animal sources and taking oil by the spoonful.

I have this book. It's not really written speciafically for women with PCOS but more for people who are tired of putting chemicals in their bodies. This book is excellent in that it advocates a balanced diet of whole grains, meats, raw milk, and lots of organic fruits and veggies. Following the suggestions of the authors could only help, not worsen, your PCOS symptoms. Give it a shot!
