Unhappy Now I am worried my hair is falling out....oh geez.....

I have always had thick hair, and I color it monthly, and I know it is damaged...but lately, well, for the past year, my hair has been falling out a lot in the shower. I wonder if it is because I need to condition it better, or if its one more symptom of pcos that I'm gonna get...uuuuugggghhh!!! I already have excess facial hair, and it in other places...now am I going to lose it off my head??!!! My hair on my head is my pride and joy...this really sucks.

Hi Jess...

I know how you feel. I lost about 50% of my hair in one year. Ick! The one thing I do regret is not having fun with my hair when it was long and healthy and thick

Has your hair steadily been falling out or is it a quick thing?

Many women with PCOS have androgenetic alopecia because of their hormonal issues. Mostly you have hair loss all over but it is concentrated either on the hairline or right before it, around the part-line.

Other women who "shed" lots of hair usually do so because they've either just given birth, started or stopped birth control, been or are currently on drugs that can cause hair loss, have bad nutrition, low iron levels/anemic, or experience extreme stress (whew, what a long list!) This type of hair loss is called Telogen Effluvium and it is generally all over shedding.

Anyway, here is more information regarding these hair losses.

Default thanks

thank you laura!! the thing about my hair loss is that i don't even notice any patches missing or anything. my dh says that i am going bald because he can see my scalp, but i have always been able to see my scalp a little. i mean, can't everyone??!! i think he is just trying to freak me out, because i take my hair so seriously, know what i mean?? it very well may just be natural shedding, it just freaks me out a little in the shower, when i am rinsing out my hair and have a bunch of them in my hand!!! kinda scary. thanks though for all your input.

Kick him for me! That's not funny! You should make jokes about his small penis!

If you don't want to try Saw Palmetto or a prescription, a lot of times hair loss can be caused by vitamin deficiencies. A good multi and B vitamin might help (certainly won't hurt). Also, you could try Omega capsules (Fish Oil, Flaxseed Oil).

Also, I lost a LOT of hair while I was on the pill. Once I stopped, the hair loss gradually lessened.

And a good conditioner will definitely help some...I just started using a Deep treatment by Bumble and Bumble - it's a little pricy, but my hair feels great. I know that the regular conditioners don't do much - you have to get an intensive/deep treatment.
