Default Now i'm completely freaked out

I'm going to be starting Provera tonight and FINALLY found a website for side effects and stuff.

http://www.health-science.com/provera.html

It stated that there have been significant amounts of reports for Thrombitis.

http://www.hemosense.com/patient/disorders.html

I'm so completely freaked out. It says I can take anti-coagulants (like aspirin) but my dr. didn't say anything about this AND I was under the impression that you can't take aspirin while taking aldactone (spiro) because it could cause heart attacks.

Has anyone else taken Provera and had any problems like this?

I'm sure this should be under "other medicines" but I already posted something there and I honestly don't think alot of people go there so if this could please not be moved I would love you forever. =)

Man, i'm so freaked out.. this sucks.

Hi Wiggley,

I have taken provera several times and have had no problems.

I didn't hear of that as a side effect but I try not to obsess over them too much....If figure my doctor feels the theraputic benefit outweighs the risk.

Good Luck

I am on aspirin and aldactone and have never been told this, so i did somesearching, and came across the following:

Quote:
Treatment with both ASPIRIN and SPIRONOLACTONE may result in decreased spironolactone effectiveness. However, your physician may decide that treating you with both aspirin and spironolactone is the best option for you. It is recommended that you take less than 650 mg of aspirin every day. Do not stop taking aspirin without consulting your physician. If you monitor your own blood pressure at home and notice it is higher than usual contact your physician. If you are taking both aspirin and spironolactone and are experiencing shortness of breath, extreme swelling, painful breathing, intense sweating, facial flushing, frequent headaches, or racing or pounding heart beat contact your physician immediately.
I am on the low dose aspirin used daily for its anti-coagulent properties and the angina that i have. Seeing as the dosage is only 75mg a day i am not going to worry about it, and i havent had any adverse side effects either.

I f you go to http://www.drugstore.com click on pharmacy and then drug interactions you can build up a profile of your meds and see any interactions with them.

I posted on your other thread.

Other than violent mood swings , I had no physical problems.

The pill, on the other hand, almost killed me.

wow, that's crazy squidge, my dr. specifically told me NOT to take aspirin with my spiro. He said it could cause me to have a heart attack with even a little dose... Damn, I should get a second opinion. Thanks for posting that, I am pretty sure I have the paper he gave me saying not to take aspirin. I'm so going to check for it now. =)

Bleh, I hate feeling like I have incorrect information after I pass it along as good info. =/

Personally I don't like Provera because it is a synthetic progesterone(progestin) and this is why it causes so many side effects. Why don't you ask to try Prometrium- a natural commercially prepared prescription or have a compounding pharmacy compound you either a natural progesterone cream, pill or drop? These have dramatically reduced SE's compared to synthetics.

Good luck!

My opinion on Provera...

IT sucks! plain and simple.. It made me mean to my dh. And then When af came she came. Im talking the great flood. Its to the point now that if get light headed or anything like that I have been advised to go to the er and possibly need a blood transfusion. I had to start taking BCP on Friday to help stop the bleeding. I have taken 2 a day and am still bleeding. The yasmin (bc) really upset me. I am ttc and now i have to take bc.

In the past prior to my dx. I was always given prometrium. Its a lot better than this provera crap! My dr was like well you havent had a period for 6 months this is to be expected. Ummm when i took prometrium it had been over a year and it was not like that. I mean i would saturate a super tampon and a pad in an hours time. Its horrible. Its finally slowing down and some what normal.

Dont mean to scare you. I just dont want you to go thru this too. Not sure if it was just me, but I know i will never ever take Provera again!

Yeah, the dr. told me I might have a heavy period since it's been 9 months. If it's too terribly bad I'll ask for prometrium next time.

I am clueless on the compounding part you mentioned.. They can actually just make something for you?

Thanks for the advice. So far no noticeable side effects. Maybe a headache now and again but I've been painting so it's hard to tell.

thanks for the info on the prometrium though, I'll definately be checking into it if this cycle is all messed up and horrible.

=)

Is it possible to start ur period while taking provera(sp?) to make you have it?

Because I'm supposed to take it the first 10 days of June, but I don't want it to start while I'm still in school. The doc said it would take like 2 weeks after I stop taking it, but I've never had a period & don't know if it can react different for different people.
