Default Now What?

Today has been interesting just got back from Planned Parenthood and they won't prescribe me anymore BCPs cause of my BP which normally is around 140/90 which it was today. The provider wants me off hormone pills and wants me to use Spermicide and Condoms. I'm freaked cause my maternity doesn't start till November we are planning on TTC then. It will be sods law that I will fall preggers with a new method of birth control, I've been on BCPs since I was 16.

Anyway DH got all freaked so I went to the Gyno I went for to be treated for PCOS. (Only went to Planned Parenthood cause it was cheap) Anyway she gave me Seasonique and she wants me to check my BP for the next month then I possibly have to come off if it's still high. I really didn't think it was that high to be honest.

Anyways just looking to vent a little and wanting some opinions on Spermicide? and also Seasonique if you have tried that?

What about a diaphragm with spermicide? You could use condoms as well; it would provide some extra protection and help to ease your worries. I used a diaphragm as backup for a while because I was paranoid and didn't trust the bcp I did have some problems with uti's and an occasional yeast infection while I used the diaphragm, but that may have just been me. I got mine at Planned Parenthood; you have to make an appointment to be fitted for it since they come in different types and sizes. I don't remember how much the diaphragm cost; it's been a several years since I got mine. But it might be worth checking into if you can't take the pill and just need something temporary.

Yes, she did mention about the Copper uti, but I have heard that they can cause many problems with women who have never been pregnant before.

I've used condoms - and just condoms since I started having sex about 9 years ago and I've never been pregnant. I know everyone is different and that it would be so ironic if you did become pregnant. Just wanted to state that condoms alone are actally quite effective if you always use them properly. I've never had issues.

I'd be a little worried about 140/90 BP though. You really don't want to be on anything that raises your risk. What about trying to reduce your sodium in your diet? That may help a bit. Getting additional exercise can really help as well!

Good luck with your choices. Hopefully you can stay on your BCP's and won't have to worry!!

Yes, after doing some checking I guess I am borderline high but I didn't think they would go to that extreme and take me off BCPs altogether. I will actually reduce my Sodium more thanks. I have been exercising and dieting it's just a long battle. We have always used condoms with my BCPs just to do double duty, so that shouldn't be a problem. I just didn't want to stir the pot so to speak.

I know what you mean. PCOS sucks. It's a nightmare to lose weight.

I totally understand you wanting to be doubly safe if you're not ready to start. Lol I felt like I've ALWAYS been ready, so I was also never really that concerned. Unfortunately I don't know much about the other contraceptive methods as I tried to avoid BCP's and other things that I have to ingest or stick up me - just seems like changing my body is so unnatural.

Again, I wish you luck with whatever you choose and hopefully you'll be able to keep on doing what you've been!!

I can't use spermicide at all. It's non-stop uti's if I do, and it also irritates my skin. My husband and I have used condoms for 4 years since I stopped the pill (recently went back on), and no Oops! pregnancies. Naturalamb is the best condom, btw. ;-)

i've just come from the cardiologist, and my bp is around 150/60 and she has put me on meds for it. she also doesent want me getting pregnant with my bp the way it is, and wants to work with me when I do. its pretty scary. we arent looking to get pregnant anyways, but i never considered my high bp to be a barrier aswell... sorry small rant

Yeah, that's scary! Hypertension during pregnancy can be bad! Good thing you're on some meds now serrayray and working on it before TTC.
