Default NPC and AF

I have severe PCOS and I haven't had AF since January of this year. I started using NPC last month to induce AF, but so far it hasn't worked. I used it for 14 days (20 mg twice a day), and then took 14 days off. This time I think I'm going to use it 3 weeks on, 1 week off. And I'm increasing my dose to 40 mg twice a day. In reading many of the posts here, it seems like several ladies saw immediate results with NPC in terms of inducing AF. So I'm wondering is it normal for some people to have to use it more than one cycle before seeing results (especially those with severe PCOS or those who haven't had a period for a long time)? I'm really hoping that NPC works for me because I'm pretty much at the end of my rope. I was on BCPs for a while to regulate my period but even those eventually stopped working.

I've read it can take up to 3 cycles (or the equivelent in days) to see first results. You're on the right track, so don't give up just yet. I know how frusterating it is waiting for the results and I hope you see some soon.

I did not have AF for a year and I tried NPC as well. The first month I did it for 14 days at 20 mg, and nothing happened. I did a little bit more research that indicated that women with PCOS may need to increase their dosage for the first several months (50-60mg). So my second month I increased it to around 50mg and had an AF for the 1st time in about 14 months! I did the same the next month and it worked again. This is the third month and this month I have decreased my dosage and trying to work down to a smaller dosage. So increasing the amount of NPC might work!

As mentioned in my first post, I increased my dosage for my second month on NPC, and this week coming up will make the 3rd week on this increased dose of NPC (I initially increased it to 40 mg, but now I'm at 60 mg). If AF still doesn't come, is there anything else I can try? I've read about vitex, but that seemed to work best for people with mild to moderate PCOS. I was really hoping NPC would work for me. I'm at the end of my rope.

You might also check which brand NPC you have. Sometimes that can make a big difference! The first brand of NPC I tried did not do a thing for me. These past 3 months I have been using Koroko Balance Creme. It has worked great. This month as I said I decreased back to 20 mg and had AF. Hope this helps. I really did not have any success with Vitex bringing on AF, but I am using it hoping it will eventually kick in and get my system regulated.

Thanks Lilly. The brand I'm using is Zand. It's supposed to be pretty good and it comes with a premeasured pump. It doesn't contain any mineral oil and it is 2% progesterone. If this doesn't work I think I'm just going to give up. The price of trying all these different things is really starting to add up for me. And since I'm not currently working I don't have insurance so I can't afford to go to the dr. and get any type of prescription. I'm just frustrated because all of these natural alternatives that seem to work for other people have done absolutely nothing for me.

Sorry that it seems so frustrating! I know! They do say that it can take up to 6 months sometimes. So you may want to continue at a high dosage for a few months. I found a lot of good advise from the natural-progesterone-advisory-network.com. That may be of some help and I need to make a correction to my last post. It was a typo error, the brand I use is Kokoro Balance Creme. Sorry about that! All the best!

yltnelis,

as a fellow unemployed, uninsured, and anovulatory PCOS-er, i'd like to point out our mutual bright side: at least we we're saving $$ on pads and tampons!

by the way, planned parenthood is free and they'll give you western meds if that's what you'd prefer.

good luck!

lilmiwa, that is funny! But you're right. I've had the same package of pads sitting in my bathroom for almost a year now. Thanks for the Planned Parenthood tip. I hadn't even thought of that. I'm really hoping the natural route works for me. I've decided to try the NPC for one more month. If it doesn't work, then I might have to look into western meds.
