My husband and I meet with the agency on November 28th. I am anxious to get started on a unisex nursery. I am wondering if having a nursery started affects the home study in a good way? When did you all start and finish your nurseries? I would love to hear from you all!!!

I am not sure if it will make a difference with your social worker BUT I had my nursery completed before my first home study visit and when she seen the room she seemed kinda surprised! She said she don't remember the last time she has seen a nursery completed on the first home study visit. She also said it did not have to be done they just want to know you have room for a baby. Well I hope this helps.
Hi Nakira~
I have heard the same as what babygirl said. They just want to know that the baby has a place to sleep and a smoke alarm in the room. But, what fun anyway. We are turning our daughter's room into a big girl room, so I grappling with whether or not to take down the crib or just leave it up in the future baby's room? I don't want to look at an empty crib for a long wait, you know?

Baby boy on the way!!!!!!! Due 3/10/2010 I couldn't feel more blessed.
I definately wouldn't do it too early just in case you have a long wait.
We started working on ours before our 1st HS visit & our SW was impressed as well. Of course, 1 1/2 years later I'm still looking @ an empty nursery which isn't very good on my emotional state. It's fun to work on it but I think working on it towards the end of your wait is much better.
Good Luck!

We didn't start the nursery until well after our homestudy was in Korea. I couldn't stand the idea of having a room full of baby stuff when we didn't have a baby. We did however, have a crib...only because DH was leaving for a deployment just before the HS was complete. Having it completed or unfinished should not affect your HS. They just want to see that you will have a place for a child! You can show the social worker what room you are planning on using, they will most likely ask.
When we finally did start the nursery, it was very slow. We bought some uni-sex bedding and painted the room yellow. We finished paiting (stripes) and bought the rest of the furniture after our referral...we waited so long, I was afraid the dresser and rocking chair wasn't going to arrive before we traveled! Thankfully it showed up 2 days before we left.
Good luck, and enjoy all the nesting!

I would talk to your agency... I didnt want to do a the nursery because its a room I could be currently using and I'm not able to because my agency wanted it done by the first home study visit... so the room has been sitting with tons of baby stuff in it since Feb of 2006. The worse part is we are looking for a newborn to 5 yrs old ... so instead of allow us to wait and get it ready when we have a definate age we have it set up for newborn to 5 yr old! IMHO its kind of a waste and its heart breaking every day when you go in and its still empty!
So where some have had to wait I was told that I could not wait. So talk to your agency!
We didn't have our nursery done for our homestudy...but slowly worked on it during our wait which was 1 year 4 months. It was pretty much complete when we hit the 1 year mark. I say it's completely up to you whether or not you should do it. It didn't bother me at all to have it done, I actually loved sitting in there and rocking when I was sad, it helped remind me that I WOULD have a baby...I just didn't know when. I'm SOOO glad we had the nursery though cause our son ended up being a last minute situation...we were called the day he was born and met him when he was 23 hrs old and took him home from the hospital the next day.
Good luck and have fun!!
