Default nutritional deficiencies

Hi,

I'm just wondering if anyone else's doctors have told them they have nutritional deficiencies that might be linked to their pcos? After a million blood tests, my endo told me that I am very deficient in iron, zinc, magnesium and just about everything else that is crucial to good health! He is knowledgeable about PCOS and says he has seen a few other patients with similar deficiencies and that their symptoms were somewhat alleviated after those deficiencies had been corrected. Has anyone else been told they are deficient in certain nutrients? Did treatment for those deficiencies help with PCOS?

I would love to hear any info you might have on this topic.

Anne

I never was tested for anything like that until I was pregnant, but pretty early on I was already anemic, even though I had been taking a prenatal vitamin for the entire time I'd been ttc, so I suspect this was a problem beforehand as well. I don't know whether these deficiencies can aggravate symptoms but I'm sure it's just generally not good to have deficiencies--so I'd say it's worth a try to get this taken care of regardless of whether it produces any directly measurable benefit. Wish you luck.

My iron ferritin is low. I've heard it should be at about 100 for hair regrowth. (I'm only at 36 right now) What are your symptoms?

I think supplementing with iron would be a good idea. It would probably help with the fatigue as well. Make sure you talk to your doc about what to take though, since taking too much can be bad also. What about B vitamins? Sometimes those help with fatigue also.
