Default nuva ring????

I had been taking ortho tricyclen lo for my PCOS and as birth control, i've been thinking lately about switching to the ring tho. My dr said that i only had 3 options, the pill, the patch (which i tried and had an allergic reaction to) or the ring, but when we talked about it we weren't really talking about it from a bc point, we were just talking about it from a making me ovulate point. So i wanted to know if anyone on here had any advice, good or bad about the ring.

Hi, first of all the patch and ring are supposedly very dangerous from what I have read and hear. I have done alot of research on this subject because my dr. wants to put me on the ring this next month too. it is just like the patch because it sends the hormones directly into the blood stream and they dont go thru the stomach and get filterd thru digestion. its risk of blood clots are very high. the ring is being pushed by gynos everywhere, because its new and they want to test it out. I dont want to be their ginie pig. the best for pcos is yasmin i have heard. i didnt do well with it but that doesnt mean you wont...most say its like the best pill ..second is mircette and desogen they all give less acne and hair loss and suppress cysts. if ortho low was working for you i would not switch to these other new things, dr.s get paid more or perks when they get us on this new stuff. the older stuff is much more tested and safer. good luck. siayae.

thanks for the advice. the only reason i was thinking about changing was because i'm bad at taking pills at the same time everyday and was/am afraid that might present a problem now that i'm actually using the pill as birth control lol. Guess I'll just have to keep doubling up anyways thanks!!

I am glad to hear you are going to try to stick to the pill, Most of the stuff that i have learned and read are from our other cysters here who have tried out medications and such. It is very important to read about dangers and side effects from these prescriptions. even though many of us our young we can never be to safe. On the message board there are a suprising amount of girls who have developed blood clots and strokes as young as 16 from thes hormones. Even though the chances are slim...you never know if you will be the one with problems. these new things, the ring and patch are not as safe as the older pills that have been out longer. I heard from another girl on here that her dr. checked her blood before even attempting to put her on the bcp. I would suggest asking your Dr. for a blood test to determine your clotting factors before going on the patch or ring, Im not trying to scare you, just trying to warn you to be imformed about the risks of these new un tested in the long term methods. life is so precious.

thanks for the concern and reply. I had a really bad reaction to the patch when I tried it. Not sure if it was the adhesive or what, since I have really sensitive skin. I don't know...I'll stay on the pill for now, at least until I can get a regular Dr. again and under insurance. I really just don't want to have any more complications that I already do, and I just want to be able to get pregnant when we start trying.
Thanks again though!

I usually place a reminder on my mobile/cell phone, so I can remember Always works for me! I've made it cryptic though, just in case someone noses into my phone, I've put it on the morning and set the message as "wake up!" I know it means pill time!

The pill was actually designed to be inserted (this info has been from many gyno's) and actually the side effects heart and crap is caused from it being swallowed. So for years I refused the Pill.

Never tried the patch as I am allergic to most adhesives. I suggested the ring to my gyno, and we did a 3 month test run. The first month was horrible. It lasted nearly 2 weeks! The 2nd month was slightly better. The 3rd was the best, my cycle barely lasted 4 days. Which thrilled my doctor. But I refused to continue it. She (dr) said that it proved I would ovulate and it wasn't necessary for me to continue anyway. I am not convinced. It just proves I can bleed. Whatever. I'm really feeling burned by the whole condition period. No pun intended.

I do have a friend who loves the ring.

Husband had to take it in and out. I couldn't reach. I guess it has been a common problem. And it did come out now and again with dtd.

I loved the ring. I don't believe it's dangerous (at least not unless the pill is dangerous). They're the same hormones; it's a lower dose.

I felt wonderful when I was using the ring. I have never felt better. However, I am now a mother....and she was conceived while I was using the ring! I guess I'm in the small failure percentage. I am heavy, though, and that can reduce the effectiveness of hormonal birth control.

I just wanted to weigh in on the Nuva ring. First off, we all know that no medication works equally for everyone. I tried a number of different birth control pills that worked for lots of women that didnt work for me.
I am currently using the ring, both to treat my PCOS and as my primary method of bc. I have to say, I am absolutely in love with it.
For the first time, I am actually experience some weight loss (albeit it slowly). My periods are becoming more manageable, and the extreme PMS I experienced before (so bad it actually caused some serious life disruptions) is beginning to lessen.
If you are open to the idea of trying new things, I suggest giving the ring a try. But I also undersdtand how frusterating it is to keep switching medications, and see no results, or have things continuously get worse. I hope that you find a method that works for you!
