I used Nuvaring for over 3 years. I really liked it. My period came when it was supposed to, and I could skip periods by just not having a ring-free week. Also, my husband could not even feel it inside me (TMI). It was a great birth control until I stopped getting my period on it. That kind of freaked me out. I was switched to Zovia, then Yasmin after I was diagnosed with PCOS in July. Overall, Nuvaring is a great birth control. I probably would have stayed on it if I had known that the reason I was having period trouble was the PCOS.

I tried the NuvaRing for one month and didn't like it. Well, I personally liked it because I did not have all the s/e's like I did on the bcp. However, my DH did not like it because he said he could feel it. Now, I COULD have not had it in right or something. But after trying and trying to make it comfortable for DH and not being successful, I decided to go back on the bcp.

I hated it! I was constantly worried it would come out....and it did TWICE during sex!!!! After the first time I thought maybe I just had it in wrong. After the 2nd time I said "FORGET IT!"

Hated, hated, hated it!

I was just going to post about NuvaRing. I've been using it for 3 or 4 months now, I'd have to say it's just alright. I haven't had any problems with it falling out and hubby can't feel it. My period has been extremely heavy, though, and I've had pretty bad cramps. And this may be way TMI, but I never feel very... fresh, if you know what I mean. It does what it's supposed to, I guess, but I won't get it again next time I go in for a new prescription, I'll go back on BCPs.

This is what I use and I am very happy with it. You can take it out for up to 3 hours, so if your partner can feel it during sex it's easy to solve that problem. I have always had a lot of problems with oral contraceptives, and this one doesn't seem to cause any of the moodiness or depression I had on every pill I've tried.

(unfortunately, it doesn't seem to help with acne, either - the oral contraceptives did!)

I was on Nuvaring for a few years and I LOVED it. LOVED IT. We never felt it during sex, it never fell out, I could easily skip periods or, when I decided to have a period, it came at the same time (Wednesday after I removed the ring on Sunday) and was 3 days long and painless. For me, it helped my skin (although my skin is pretty good to begin with). I didn't experience any side effects. Did I mention that I loved it?

Default NuvaRing

I have used NuvaRing for almost 5 years and love it. It is convenient, easy, and the s/e were much milder than the other hundreds of BC I've tried.

HOWEVER, I just recently have been diagnosed with PCOS and haven't continued my BC (my doctor doesn't believe in prescribing bc?!) so I can't tell you what its effects have been with my meds.

Good luck

Default Feel like I should have said more...

I posted an earlier response about Nuvaring and feel like I should have said more...

They put me on BC when I was 15 to "regulate" my periods. Throughout the years, I tried everything from a diaphragm to the shots. All other BC made me crazy (as in crying because I couldn't get my key into my car door properly). Looking back, so many of my Dr's should have been able to tell that I had PCOS but that's another post.

Again, I LOVE the Ring and haven't used anything else for years (5-6-7!?). I always got my period after removing it, they were short (3-4 days) and I although i did suffer from PMS, I don't think it was any worse than normal...nothing a little cocktail of B-Vitamins couldn't help. I had little to no cramping, it was easy and convenient, my boyfriend only mentioned feeling it once, only came out once, and I can't even feel that its there.

I LOVE Nuvaring, and although I realize it may effect you differently, I would recommend taking it for a spin. As mentioned before, I was put through Birth Control Hell for most of my young life and after I started using the Ring I haven't had to think about it twice. I won't use anything else.

LOVE IT.

Hope you have the same luck as I.

Dogsrmykids, did you have any problems with weight gain or depression on the Ring? Like you, I had severe problems with bcp & depo and swore off hormones in '98. But when I'm done BF we're gonna try something, I dunno if I want another IUD.

Honestly, Guinea, its hard to say. Depression runs in my family so I have fought with depression most of my life. I will say that I definitely did not notice an increase in depression with the Ring. And as far as weight gain, again, its hard to tell. So many things were going on in my life over the years that its hard to determine whether the ring had anything to do with weight loss or gain.

Again, these choices are so individual that its hard to say. I will say again, however, that I have tried everything short of an IUD (wouldn't let me since I haven't had a child) and NuvaRing is definitely my favorite -- hands down. I'm a research scientist and if I'm not happy with something, I research it until I find something better. At the risk of sounding like a commercial, I have stuck with this BC for a reason. it just suits me.

I have recommended it to my best friends when the conversation comes up.

Best of luck...let me know what you think if you decide to try it.

I think that the delivery system of the ring might be superior to the pill form because it gives you a more even distribution of the dosage throughout the day. The first time I was prescribed the ring I was having trouble with breakthough bleeding between my periods on Yasmin. At the previous appointment my doctor suggested that I get a pill cutter and take my yasmin 1/2 in the morning and 1/2 at night. That was a major hassle and I ask at the next appointment if I could accomplish the same thing with the ring. My doctor was very enthusiastic about that and it worked out great. The ring is sort of fool-proof for me, I just set a reminder on my computer for when I need to change the ring and I don't have to think about it in between.

I have switched between Yasmin and the Nuva Ring several times. I am using the ring currently. Both products work well for me and it would be difficult to say which is my favorite. Again I think that the delivery system of the ring is better but I think for me that the progestin in Yasmin might offer me advantages. (It might be different for you especially regarding which progestin and what ratios of estrogen and progestin work best for you. And some women do not respond well to being on hormonal contraceptives) It also sounds a little crazy but I think that my body might respond well to switching every so often.

this might be a little off topic, but i figured i might get more response here than starting a new thread.
has anyone tried skipping a period on the ring? i was thinking i could just put a new one in after taking the old one out, like skipping the placebos in a bc pill pack. i'd only do it once, it's my first wedding anniversary in the middle of my "no ring" week. any thoughts?

I was on nuva ring for about 6 months and i didnt think it was worth the hassel. It fell out randomly and I felt nervous about it all the time. I stick to oral bc. you know that's not going to fall out.

I loved the ring until it started giving me yeast infections and then it was back to oral bc.
