my main symptoms have been irregular cycles (without help i go monhts without af), elevated testosterone, and infertility. we remedied the cycles with progesterone, most recently with wild yam cream. i have no idea what happened to my testosterone, it hasn't been tested in ages. and we got pg last month thanks to clomid. i had been on metformin as well. the met and the clomid were thanks to the nhs. i haven't had the problem with much excess hair-- a tiny bit on my belly, and two strays on my chin. i dont' know what sort of help is available for excess hair. one of the boards on this site has a subheading of hiar, or hisurtism (sp). you could probably get some good advice from there. i'm failry new to the nhs.. i moved back here from california last august, and this is the first time i've dealt with the nhs as an adult (i was a toddler when we moved to california).
i've been vegetarian all my life, and vegan for almost half my life, and as such only got moderatly overweight at the peak of my thyroid problem (i let it go undiagnosed for a couple years). i topped out at 170 lbs (just over 12 stone), and am down to just over 10 stone. pcos makes it very hard to lose weight, even at this end of the spectrum! i think my weight really started shifting after i started eating breakfast. this seemed weird to me, as i had stopped eating breakfast when i was about 9 years old, and was a beanpole, but, it seems to have helped. i don't low carb, exactly... i was raised eating good carbs (whole grains, etc), and think that this is beneficial, both to energy levels, and overall health. i'm not so hot on the whole atkins thing, though it does seem to help some people. it scares me to no end, though.
anyway, i've rambled for a bit. i'd check out the board that talks about other symptoms like hair loss/hair growth. from what i've heard around here, you just have to keep bugging the nhs people, or bug the right nhs person. i think they have it in their heads (most of them) that excess hair is a cosmetic problem, rather than a health problem that affects people's well being and state of mind. good luck with that!
