Default O.c.d.

Does anyone else have it? Has your doctor linked it to depression as well?

Get involved in animal rescue. You won't be sorry. Your heart may break, there may be times when your eyes are red-rimmed for days. You may lose faith in the goodness of people, but your spirit will be renewed by the resilience of those you save. It isn't easy, but it's worth it. I promise you, you will be forever changed.

I don't have it, but it was one of the things I got quizzed on when I went in for anxiety treatment a couple years ago. Apparently it's one of the things that responds well to cognitive behavorial therapy. There were a bunch of questions on the diagnostic they gave me asking if various types of OCD had negatively impacted my life. (I asked and they said that one should only get treatment for it if one's life is being negatively impacted, causing depression, for example-- it's ok to be OCD if one is fine with it.)

Yes I do have and it is a major cause of depression, panic attacks and social anxiety. There are two different types of ocd, I have the on called Pure O OCD (repeative uncontrolable thoughts, etc.). This an OCD board .... http://www.stuckinadoorway.co.uk/default.asp . I am going in on Thursday to have my meds re-evaluated and to start therapy.

I used to suffer bad from OCD. I used to wash my hands ALL the time, check doors etc, but with treatment I don't even think about it anymore, and the rituals just went away.

I don't have it but my 19 year old son does along with his other major issues including depression. He obsesses about the strangest things, and then feels guilty, so I'm sure that's where the depression comes in, but he's also bi-polar. You hang in there, and seek help if you need to. You are not alone.

I am on Paxil 60, dr just uped the dose yesterday and dx me with OCD Personality, Post Traumic Stress, Severe Depression, etc. Dr took me off the Wellbutrin and put me on Gabapentin (Neurontin) for my anxiety / panic attacks / fight or flight, etc. Next month he is going to add Topiramate for the nightmares and flashbacks. In the mean time I start counseling next week. Using the meds to help me get through the counseling and then go from there. The therapy includes learning to face your fears, so we will see how it goes.

oh wow, I thought it was just me....I haven't been officially dx with OCD because it never impacted me enough but I believe that I have OCD type personality. It was alot worse when I was a teenager but it's gotten better....I'm a checker and I'm terrified of starting a fire for some reason. Before I can leave the house I have a routine....Check the back door, make sure all the faucets are off...check the stove (even if I haven't cooked)...lock the front door on the way out. When I say check the front door, I mean stand there and try to push it in with all my might to make sure it won't open....If I feel like I forgot to do something, I have to go back in....I can't just check the thing I forgot...I have to start the whole process from the beginning. It's better for me to leave with my husband because he won't let me go back in once we've left. It's also better now that we live in a house....When we lived on the 3rd floor apt, it was horrible having to climb back up the stairs...There also were more doors to check cause we had 2 sliding glass balcony doors....

I think the OCD is partly why I'm such a neat freak and perfectionist...Everything in our house has a place and it really bothers me when something is left where it doesn't belong. DH said that I'm going to get quite a shock when we have kids and the house won't stay as clean as I would like.

Don't even get me started about the alarm clock routine....
Sorry to ramble!!

Kristina--
All that stuff was in the questionnaire I took when I went in for anxiety. Then it was followed up by questions about whether or not it impacted your life negatively.

So if it bothers you enough that you want to change, there's treatment out there for you, if it doesn't bother you, then that's ok.

Interesting enough .. my dr said that those with OCD Personality usually are able to learn how to control their thoughts and use their OCD for the good.

I used to have a compulsive disorder where you pull your own hair out I know it is disgusting, but it's something you can't stop yourself from just like any other OCD. It does have a fancy name and is a recognised compulsive disorder and it's ironic considering now I will ANYTHING to STOP my hair coming out!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i believe i have OCD - i have suffered from invasive and repetitive thoughts for a long time, anxiety, and panic. i had an eating disorder for a long time, which stemmed from OCD. now all my PCOS symptoms (namely the hair growth) is becoming repetitive and invasive thoughts, and it's really depressing and irritating.
