Default O mai. A newbie

Kinda nervous about being here, 'cause I haven't actually been diagnosed with PCOS or even mentioned it to a doctor yet. But I've been a bit concerned about the possibility of having it for a while. I've got a fair few of the symptoms, but the one that sparked off this paranoia is the fact that I have excessive body hair. Damn near everything I've read about that has mentioned PCOS, 'go see a doctor cos it might be that' blah blah. Soyes. Hay?

Hi, Sense of Decay. I know your nervousness. I've had PCOS for what is going on 13 years. But I wasn't given the official diagnosis until June of this year when I started seeing a Fertility Specialist. A lot of doctors don't want to put excess labels on their patients. However, if you feel strongly that you have classic symptoms of PCOS, I say pursue that with your doctor. It will make a difference when you decide to have children, as infertility is a common issue with PCOS. Since we have irregulated hormones, we need extra hormones to boost ovulation and help with conception.

It's always better to know exactly what is going on with your body instead of wondering.

Mmm, this is very true. Thing is, I've hardly ever spoken about it, so I kinda need the courage to mention it, 'cause I tend to feel like a hypochondriac at times. But yeah, definitely worth getting checked out. Better to be safe than sorry and all that.

Thanks

Better to mention it now before your symptoms (if it is, in fact, PCOS) get out of control. I first started to have severe symptoms of PCOS 13 years ago. Of course, I never mentioned the label of PCOS to my doctor. And although my doctors have been aware of my symptoms, I was not officially given this diagnosis until I started seeing an RE (Reproductive Endocrinologist) because I can't conceive.

But even when the symptoms are just the more annoying ones, it's worth mentioning. I never mentioned any of that when I was a teenager and starting to notice those things. It wasn't until I had out of control heavy bleeding that wouldn't stop that I mentioned other symptoms. So don't want until you get a crazy irregular cycle like I did.

In that case, I think I've left it a bit late xD; because I've always had a pretty damn irregular menstrual cycle. I think I have a habit of missing a couple of months at a time, but I have problems with memory and also accurately recalling certain amounts of time (by that I mean, ten minutes can feel like thirty, week can feel like two, or two can feel like a whole month etc etc), so I might be wrong there. But I don't think I am

You should definitely go in and talk to your doctor about these issues. That's why I think. They can be helpful or they can refer you to someone who can be helpful.

I'm meant to be seeing a doctor for unrelated issues, although I think I need to give that a kick up the ass. But I'll definitely mention it when I do see someone. Thanks for your help.

And thanks to Snow and Kate, too
