Default O or no... what do you think?

Ok, so I have been on Clomid and Metformin for a couple months with no O. I have taken OPK and never seen a positive. Yesterday (CD16) when I woke up I had severe cramping in my right side and back pain. It hurt so bad that I could barley stand to walk. I decided to take an OPK and it was definetly positive. The cramping lasted till about 6:00 p.m. yesterday. At around 9:00 p.m. I took another OPK - negative.

So, is it possible to have a positive OPK and a negative on the same day? I took them about 8 hours apart.

Also, how long after you O will an OPK still show positive? Or does it come out negative once O has occured?

I am praying that it was ovulation pain that I felt yesterday. What do you ladies think?

For me, I have been getting a + for a couple days. I did last month too. On the second day it was much lighter though. But that doesn't mean for you it wasn't O. It very well could be.

Well, a LH surge only lasts anywhere from 12-36 hours. ThePOAS lady at peeonastick.com tested this out, and had a negative during the afternoon, a positive during the night, and negative the next afternoon... so it's possible to totally miss a short surge even.
So you might have caught the tail end of a surge the first time and it was gone the second, so it is definitely possible. The surge occurs about, again oddly enough, 12-36 hours before Ov happens. It's so iffy, but I think you should BD to cover all bases.

Best of luck!

If you had any kind of + OPK, then that's enough to show the surge. I use 2 brands of OPKs and one is more sensitive than the other. With the sticks that I have to judge myself, I can get 2 days of clearly positives, with the day on either side of those 2 being 'nearly positive'. I use those in the mornings. Meanwhile, in the afternoon, I can take a digital OPK, get a positive on either day 1 or 2 of the positive stick tests, and get a negative the following morning (while still getting a positive from the stick tests, often!).

Anyhow, the moral of the story is what AnotherDreamer said- sometimes a surge is short and can give you different outcomes on even the same day.

Good luck!

It's completely possible you ovulated. I had those same pains last month during ovulation. Very painful.

Ok just so you know, if you had your p4 done right around the time you ovulated, which it sounds like you did, then it will likely not sure ovulation. To truly see what kind of ovulation you had, you have to get a p4 exactly 7 days past ovulation. That is when progesterone peaks. If this p4 is low, make sure you get another one 7dpo.

My Dr. had me do the P4 on CD21. So, if I O'd on CD 16 then I would have had my P4 on 5dpo. I'm not really sure what day to count ovulation. The day I had the cramping and positive OPK or sometime after that? I'm so confused. I called to get my P4 results but they are not in yet. I'll try again tommorow.
