O/T Buying a new house...Bungalow or 2 Storey ?

Hi

So .. Dh and I are in the market for a new house .. the one we are in now is quickly being outgrown by our family (its a 4 level backsplit with about 1500 sq feet)...

My parents will be inhabiting the basement (we want to have a walk out for them) as they are tired of manning their house and the cottage and just want a space to hang their hat between being at the cottage and travelling.

So most of our basement will be taken up by them...

I have always favoured Bungalows but we would have to spend a fortune to get one big enough for our needs and I havent been a big fan of 2 Storeys but I think for a family its the best solution right now ?

Any ideas or experiences either positive or negative ?

If you don't like the 2 story try looking for a newer split level. Smaller number of steps to get to most areas of the homes and plenty of room. But I understand your sentament with bungalow's-- I prefer them too. They are also easier to clean as there aren't all the steps to have to clean and all the little corners.

there are a ton of different house types,, some with in-law suits already there... what about building? just go look at a ton of houses then decide.

We did look at building for about 6 months...but to find the right property at a reasonable price around here is next to impossible especially to the West which is where we want to be (towards Toronto more) it just gets out of hand.

I think we are going to go and look at 2 storeys and imagine if living in one would be feasible again (my parents always had one)
