Hi! I have some questions for thin cysters that take Met. Your answers will be greatly appreciated! Amanda S.
1. What dose of Met do you take?
2. Have you gotten AF with this dose?
3. How long did it take you to get AF after you started Met?
4. Do you test IR?
5. Are you taking Met because you are TTC?
6. If you are not on Met, are you on anything else to control your PCOS symptoms?
Thank you!

1: 2000 mg of the extended release (glucophage XR or metformin ER)
2: yes
3: 1 year
4: yes, but only with the 2-hour GTT (my fasting insulin is normal)
5: originally yes, then got pg, had baby, so currently not ttc (but still on met), in the near future yes, will ttc again.
6: reduced intake of refined carbs
I hope this helps!
Oana

1. Supposed to be 1500 but I'm only at 1000 right now due to side effects
2. Yes
3. 3 weeks
4. Have been tested but didn't not come up IR at the time
5. I'm taking Met to eventually TTC in the next year or so - I needed something after nine months of no periods following stopping the pill.
6. Spironolactone and a low-carb diet. Will be starting regular exercise in May when my schedule frees up.
1. 500mg 2xday
2. yes
3. I think it was about 1 month
4. My doc said it didn't matter, but slightly I think
5. nope
6. not taking anything else now either. Thinking about spiro but will ttc sometime in the next year or so and spiro and ttc don't mix (or so I've read).
1. What dose of Met do you take? 1500 mg all 3 pills with dinner
2. Have you gotten AF with this dose? only once (been on it 5 months, got AF on it 2nd cycle)
3. How long did it take you to get AF after you started Met? 2nd cycle
4. Do you test IR? no
5. Are you taking Met because you are TTC? yes
6. If you are not on Met, are you on anything else to control your PCOS symptoms? nope
Hope that helps! The 2nd cycle I was on Met, I Oed and had a 14 day LP! That was in November, since then I've had to use provera to get AF.
Thanks for the replies, ladies. I was on Met when I was TTC, but never O'd on my own...but I was doing the injectables thing, so we never really waited to see if I would O.
But now I'm not TTC and just trying to have cycles. BCPs are not an option...they do not agree with me...so I'm hoping that Met will do the trick! Thanks again, Amanda S.

Yes, during the 3 months we couldn't TTC I got AF 3 times! I had 35- 33-, and 27- day cycles.
3. How long did it take you to get AF after you started Met?
See my notes about my cycles...it's hard for me to answer this question, because I got PG after the first time when I started Met. I started Met along with Prometrium to induce my period, so I can't say whether it was the Prometrium or the Met that made AF arrive. Every time I've concieved, it was on Met with 100 mg of Clomid.
4. Do you test IR?
I've never taken the fasting insulin test. My 1st doctor did not test me - shame on her! But we do know my body seems to respond to Met, so I don't want to stop taking it long enough for my new doc to administer the fasting insulin test.
5. Are you taking Met because you are TTC?
Yes, if we weren't TTC I'd probably regulate my cycles with The Pill.
6. If you are not on Met, are you on anything else to control your PCOS symptoms?
n/a

1. What dose of Met do you take? was on 2,000mg of extended release (XR), but stopped since I'm pregnant
2. Have you gotten AF with this dose? Yes
3. How long did it take you to get AF after you started Met? A few weeks - not sure if AF was really due to taking Met though
4. Do you test IR? not according to fasting insulin, but never had a GTT
5. Are you taking Met because you are TTC? Yes and no. Did start it b/c of TTC, but will take it in the future to help manage PCOS and prevent risk of IR/Diabetes (which are very common in my family)
6. If you are not on Met, are you on anything else to control your PCOS symptoms? Not now, but will probably go back on BCPs at some point, since met never regulated my cycles
BTW, my free and total testosterone dropped significantly while I was on met. Can't remember the exact numbers, but each dropped about 50% into normal lab ranges. So it can be working even if you don't see cycle improvements.
