Default Obese, PCOS, TTC, and feeling alone

Hi everyone. I've lurked here off and on for about a year, but just joined today. I was diagnosed with PCOS about 8 years ago when I was in college. I never did anything really, except take BC pills because quite frankly I didn't mind not having a period, didn't care to research more about PCOS itself, and wasn't married, so being infertile was the last thing on my mind. However, since then I've gotten married and am not wanting babies. :-)

Just to introduce my story... I used to be 380 pounds. In Feb 2008 I had the lapband surgery and have lost a little over 80 pounds. In Feb I told myself I would lose weight and then worry about pregnancy... as that time is nearing, I'm getting more and more concerned about my PCOS. I still don't know that much about it... and honestly I'm feeling scared and very alone.

Anyway, I'm just hoping to learn more about PCOS, see some real life examples and ways to help the hair growth, hair loss, weight, acne... you know... the usual!

Thanks!

Hello I have had pcos since I would say the age of 16 but was only diagnosed in nov 2008, I have had all the problems the hair loss the weight gain the facial hair and the acne. For the hair loss I started taking prenatal vitamins, for the weight gain I have not found anything that has worked, the facial hair I go every two weeks and get my face waxed that seems to help with the acne also and I wash my face with baby shampoo and use vasline at night to moisturizer my face.

For the hair loss, you might want to ask your doctor to check your vitamin D. My levels were very low and was losing an incredible amount of hair. My endo called me and told me my vitamin D levels were very low and put me on 2,000 units of vitamin D a day. I've been on it for about 3 weeks and the hair loss has decreased significantly. You might want to look into this.

For the unwanted hair: I've faught with this problem since I was 18...I finally took the plunge and paid to get a full body laser hair removal. I financed it through capital one healthcare finance and happily pay the bill each month because the results have been outstanding! I went to a place that guranteed results for life in writing....i recommend that you look for this gurantee if you decide to get laser hair removal. I went to place and did my face about 10 years ago and the hair came back, but they didn't gurantee the results.

Best of luck!
Wendy

So jair laser removal really works I remember speaking to someone about that and they said it didnt work for them and they wouldnt recommend it, I wish I could find something that could stop the hair from growing totally on my face but so far nothing that is why after all these years I still go to get my face waxed evey 2 weeks. My hair was starting to fall out too in the middle of my head and at the same time my vit d test came back and it showed that I was low very low in vit d also I take 2000 vit d3 everyday also and I thought I might be a litle crazy thinking that it was that pill that was helping me... thanks for that bit of info wndytime

Hi Mrs. Mickens,

At the place I went to they require that you have 8 treatments in order to qualify for the "guaranteed for life." However, they charge you 1 flat fee for the whole treatment. Since I'm doing my whole body and it takes a long time I don't do all the body parts each time I go. I go for 2 hour sessions each time. However, I can tell you that after 4 sessions all my facial hair is completely gone. In the same amount of sessions all my leg hairs, arm hairs, chest hair etc... I'm thrilled with the results and the added confidence of lifetime guarantee is really reassuring.

I believe the laser they use is called Candela. From the research I did, all lasers are not the same and with some lasers (as I experienced) the hair does eventually return. The name of the place is "Body Details." Just in case you want to look them up...i know we are in different states but maybe you could find a local place that uses the same technology and offers the same guarantee.

Hugs,
Wendy

I have had laser on my chin. I have had at least 8 sessions and it's not all gone but it's like every 6 months to a year I go for a session. It's light/fine enough now that a light shave every few days keeps me feeling normal whereas before it was true beard quality stuff. Now there are really only 3-4 coarse hairs, the rest is fine, just darker and bale to grow longer than I care for you know? Before there were like, I don't know, 30-40 nasty coarse hairs?

In my case I wouldn't say it's permanent but it's definately made a horrible problem into no big deal. I think of it as body maintanance like a hair cut...

It flares up worse during pregnancy... maybe without pregnancy it would stay at the point I wouldn't need laser. I haven't had a session since about a month before my girls were born... I had a session earlier in the pregnancy and that was the first session I'd had in what seemed like AGES.
