Default Ocd?

Hey there. . .just wondering if any of you cysters out there have OCD (obsessive-compulsive disorder), and if so, do you also have problems w/ depression and/or anxiety? Also, what meds are y'all taking (if any)?

I have anxiety which has caused a sever sleep disorder. I take restoril for that and celexa *when I will* for depression. The restoril helps except for severe times. Lendi

Hi purplegal. My name is Mel. I don't have ocd but I do find that when I am depressed or mostly when I am anxious that I bite my finger nails and the skin around them obsessively. I find the repetative motion soothing in some sort of way. I am currently not taking any meds for my depression/anxiety/ptsd.
I have found that yoga, deep breathing and meditating have helped with my anxiety a lot.
Take care and stay safe,
Mel

Hey, I have a form of OCD...I have something called Trichtillomania...it's basically obessive compulsively pulling strands of hair out...I have been doing it for a few years now...it's no too serious...I don't have bald patches like some people get, but at times it can be overwhelming. You can look at my Signature and see the meds I'm taking, but nothing has really helped this problem...although I haven't really discussed it with a doctor...so...

Hi Purplegal,

I have been diagnosed with OCD and have been dealing with symptoms for a while now (hand washing, fear of germs, fear of getting ill, unwanted thoughts - all the usual!)

They tried putting me on Prozac to "cure" it which didn't work for me, but I think I have some kind of over-sensitivity to such stuff now. It really works for some people though.

Have you got all the information you need on the condition? If not, I will dig out some good websites for you to look at. Are you being treated for it or just coping by yourself?

Whatever the situation, I hope you are managing Ok, as it can be a really exhausting and frightening disorder, but with drugs and or behaviour therapy it is sortable.

I chose not to go down the drugs line, but I work with my therapist which has helped. There are loads of great books on it too.

It does seem to get worse with stress, which good old PCOS interferes with too! Just remember you are definitely NOT alone in this!!!! OCD can throw out the most bizarre symptoms, so it is worth reading up from a reliable source.

Take care and above all - don't panic because it can be improved a great deal with help. Sometimes it even improves by itself.

Bright blessings,

Sarah
;-)

Yes, I have pretty bad OCD. I also have Schizoaffective Disorder, (Bipolar Disorder & Schizophrenia,) Panic Disorder, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, Insomnia, and the list goes on.. I'm on 100mgs of Zoloft for the Panic, PTSD, Depression, and OCD, though it doesn't really seem to be helping the OCD at all. My psychiatrist is talking about putting me on another med just for OCD. I'm also on Tegretol XR for the Bipolar mania, PTSD, and migraines, and Risperdal for the Schizophrenia. And I take Valium, but only when I have a panic attack, which is now down to about once a week.

If you're just finding out you have OCD, there is TONS of great information about it out there on the net. There are online support groups as well. I know of some on Yahoo! groups. Hang in there, even though it can get really hard at times.
