I had some freakishly long bleeding begin in November and my doctor said about all I could do was go on BCPs and he prescribed Ovcon35... I have been on soooo many BCPs but that was a new one for me... well it is supposed to be a good one for PCOS. Unfortunately it didn't help with the bleeding. It stopped for about a week and then started again - BUT I was taking the normal dose. Doubling up will likely increase your chances of it working to stop the bleeding. After my episode I read of another cyster having to do it that way. Maybe my doc thought the regular dose would work because the bleeding was still pretty light when I went in to see him...
At any rate the side effects of all BCPs are pretty much the same. Weight gain, headaches, trouble with contacts, depression, nausea... I'd expect you might have more tendency towards nausea and moodiness on a double dose but you never know. You might not. BCPs as a rule tend to make me depressed so ther fact that Ovcon makes me moody isn't saying much. I am taking it with anti-depressants and an extra B complex vitamin now and seem to be doing OK.
Hope it works for you!

We fell through the ice when we tried not to slip..."
