Default Odds of success with IVF/ICSI?

Just wondering what my odds of success, percentage-wise, are for IVF in the fall?

I'm 29, and have never been pg.
Other than mild PCOS (and unexplained IF), very healthy - regular weight.
Don't smoke and have given up drinking (and caffeine).
Exercise regularly and eat very well.
Lining responds well to injectable meds.
I'm doing acupuncture and TCM.

Dh is fairly healthy, but has mf involving his morphology and motility (hence the ICSI).

What am I at: 30%? More? My doctor said 50%, but that was an average success rate of all her patients.

I think IVF in general has a 30-40% success rate. Being as healthy and issue free as possible probably just puts you on the higher end of that. If it's any help, aside from accupuncture and TCM (don't know what that is), you could have been describing me in your post and as you can see, I now have a beautiful little girl. Our MF was count under 1 million. Unfortunately my IVF failed, but it was the FET that got it done for me. We asked why the IVF didn't work and our RE said that more than likely it was due to chance. Unfortunately, there isn't a pill or injection that can help with that. Stay positive and good luck with your cycle!!

i would say you have every reason to be hopeful this will work for you. my first IVf i was very over weight, severely insulin resistant, and MF was bad. count under 2 mill, bad morph and motility. I got pregnant! we only had one egg fertilize. we later found out i have an egg quality problem on top of everything else! my second IVF was a repeat, only one fertilized and i did get pregnant but M/Ced. good luck!! my embryoogist says that the days between retreieval and transfer are the most important to remain calm and positive

We were planning on IVF, so I did lots of research. As I recall the success rate partly depends on the number of embroys implanted. My first RE's standard is 2. My second RE said he preferred to only implant 1 if there was no history of m/c. Obviously the chance of having a child would be higher with 2 than 1, but so is the chance of multiples. Of course, the number of embroys available will have something to do with how many they can implant. Have you made all those decisions yet?

My RE says that a healthy woman under 35 with PCOS has about a 50% chance. If you are older or have other health issues or a higher FSH, that number drops.

I think no matter how you look at it your best % is going to be 50/50. So you if are comfterable with those odds to begin with, then go for it! It could work out either way. With my IVF we got pregnant but had a mc. Doc's didn't know why really, i have pcos and dh has mf under 1 million as indicated on my siggy but our cycle went PERFECT and still ended badly. Our FET didn't even take and we have one embryo already hatching..doc was amazed it didn't work and had no explanation. I guess I was always ment to adopt. It took all that for me to see it!

Good luck!

Thanks for all the information!

I checked my clinic's success rate for my age, and it was over 65% (if I read the chart correctly - hope I did!). I'm also doing acupuncture, since studies are showing that it boosts + rates by a significant rate. So here's hoping.

Pam: I'm transferring 2. I'd rather do one, but with the cost of these procedures (emotional and financial), I want the best possible odds.

Queen: Congratulations on your decision to adopt!

I've heard great things about accupunture with IVF, too. Sounds like you are covering all your bases. I think 2 embryos makes the most practical sense even with the risk of multiples. I hope the stars align for you and it's a huge success.

You're welcome. A child psychiatrist with 2 young children of her own recommended it to me through my husband. I hope it's useful.

Hello my friend !

As you know I am on the same journey as you are... I just wanted to share with you, that after my fresh IVF transfer and a frozen one, my doctor thinks that the problem is the implantation and with the remaining frozen embryos, she will have them reach the blast stage ( 5 days ) and will use a technique called Hatching, where they open a little the shell that covers the embryo so it can get out and implant.

They use this when you have already tried some IVF cycles ( normally 2 or 3 of starting over with a new egg retrieval, etc ), but my doctor told us why wait more to try and give the best chances to the embryos to implant !! and I agree !!

Maybe you want to ask your doctor first, to make sure the embryos reach the blast stage, and maybe also try the hatching even if it is your frist cycle under IVF. It seems PCOS also make the outer shell of the embryo too thick and hard to break for the little embryos inside.

Just my 2 cents !!

One-hit-wonder, come join us on the TTC with IVF buddy thread!:

To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.
There are IVF vets like myself and Monita, but there are also newbies! You'd get a lot of good advice and support on our thread. I hope to see you there!

Given your age, health, no MF issues, etc... I'm guessing that your odds are pretty good. Someone did mention chance as a factor, which my RE mentioned too when we had a chemical with FET #2. I was given similarly high stats and got bfp with my son, Myles, on our 1st FET.
