Default Oh, Canada!?!?! (Re: PCOS Doctors)

Ok..so what's the deal Canadian cysters?!?!

There are ABSOLUTELY ZERO doctors listed in the PCOS DOCTOR DIRECTORY under Canada.

Please help out your fellow Canadian Cysters by adding Canadian physicians that you feel are worth recommending.

Click HERE then click on CANADA, then click on ADD A LINK.

You'll be doing your part to help women with PCOS!!

THANK YOU!!!

Kat

Not to be a smart ass Kat but I haven't posted any yet because I haven't found one that I would recommend yet.

I would love to see some recommendations - it's frustrating when you go to your appointment and everything that they are telling you was posted here a long time ago!!!

Kat, I would add my doctor (the one who referred me to the RE), but he has a 1 1/2 to 3 year waiting list. It's that way in most of Southern Ontario, sadly. So there isn't much point in adding him to the list. And you can't go see the RE without a referral.

I tried the link Kat but it doesn't look like my doctor comes up (unless I am doing something wrong).

My doctor is great, I would recommend her to anyone with pcos.

Her name is
Thirza Smith
Obs/Gyne
Saskatoon, Saskatchewan

Can a physician be manually put into a directory??

I have also tried to add my doctor's name to the directory (a while back now). I filled out all the information it asked of me (all that I knew anyway) and NOTHING showed up in the directory for me either. I just got some message back saying something along the lines that it (the listing) needed to be authorized first before being added into the directory. And nothing ever did show up.

Let met check the Canada category to see why the links don't show up...so that you can add them manually...

(that kind of stinks about the PCOS doctor situation in Canada...sounds like an 'awareness' campaign may be in the making )

Kat,

I am calling my GYN's office to make sure she is accepting new patients and to get her permission to include her name.

When I get the ok, I will make the link.

Cool 2 good docs in Ottawa

Heya,

Just thought i'd mention that both doctors i have been seeing are worth a visit.

First off, the one who refered me to my endo:

Dermatologist Dr. Quintal, Montreal Rd, Ottawa Ontario

My endo Dr. Phillys Jane Hierlihy. Ottawa U campus

Hope this helps someone. Now I am not sure if they are taking "walk ins" or if you need a referrence from your family doctor to get in there.

Well I just seen a great doctor, in Ottawa, both my family doctor Dr. Allison Trant and my endo Dr. Phyllis Hierlihy, both seem to know quite a bit about PCOS and the problems that come along with.

Unfortunately, my family dr is not taking anymore new patients at the moment, and Dr. Phyllis Hierlihy only takes patients through family doctor referrals.

I am starting on Metformin. I hope all goes well with it.

I hope that this helps those living in Ottawa, who are looking for other answers and better doctors.

If anyone lives in the Okanagan (BC Canada) I can recommend an awesome naturopath!!

ak82, what exactly has the naturopath done for you? what sort of things did he/she prescribe? my insurance covers the services of a naturopath so i'm considering seeing one.

Well I was a complete mess when I went to see my naturopath. I had been on a number of different antidepressants and had suffered from an eating disorder which put my whole body out of whack. I got a saliva hormone test done and vega test which measures how each part of your body is doing. I was prescribed progesterone cream for PCOS, stuff to help my thyroid, adrenal glands, pituitary, digestion and candida that I had really bad.

After 4 months of treatment my depression has gone, and I have more energy than I've ever had in my life!!! My thyroid is back to normal and I'm no longer freezing all the time. Candida's gone and my digestion is almost completely normal. My PCOS symptoms aren't as bad, and hopefully this month I'll get my period naturally (first time ever). Oh and I've lost 21lbs. Plus he's helped with my allergies. I used to get tonsilitis about once a month until I found out I was allergic to milk. I'll never go back to a "normal" doctor again, if I can help it. Regular doctors seem to treat symptoms and give way too many drugs, whereas naturopaths get to the root of the problem and solve it naturally.

Dr. Swetlikoff is my naturpath if you're in the area. He's the only doctor I've been to who knows a lot about PCOS and actually seems to care about his patients.

thanks for your reply

I'm in Toronto so I won't be able to see him,, I have no idea how to find a good one in my area. I'm so fed up with my endocrinologist's indifference. It doesn't seem like she cares, not to mention they lost my file twice! I have no idea what my lab results are from the past year because of her idiot secretary.

I'm not sure if I should be seeing an ObGyn for my PCOS, or an endocrinologist, or both, but interested in finding the absolutely best PCOS doctor in toronto if at all possible. Unfortunately due to this issue with the links not working, i've been unable to find a recommendation on the boards here.

Looking forward to seeing the referrals once the links are up and running!
