Points: 455.00 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 455.00 | OH my gosh !!! I just posted to the general forum if anyone knew of any 'thin cysters' out there. They told me where to look for you guys.
Julie, I can sympathize with you 100% I am 5'3'' and weigh around 96lbs. (definintely 'need a cookie' ) But nothing I eat, drink, etc. helps me put on the pounds. Have you ever tried finding info. on how to gain weight??? Yeah, not gonna happen.
I get those same 'looks' of 'your not overweight so you can't possibly be PCOS'. Although I was diagnosed 5 years ago when my dh and I ttc. I have come in search of support as my 'journey' is nearing the end. I have done no fewer than 12 rounds of clomid, at least 5 rounds of fertinex/repronex, ovarian drilling 3 years ago, and 2 IUIs w/clomid and am being told that Glucophage, etc. is not for me as I am thin and not IR. I was just tested for LOCAH and was told that my results were normal, but I tend to disagree, so I am not sure if I will be put on prednisone/dexamethasone or not. I do not think that anything that I have done so far has made me ovulate, so I guess we will see where the road leads. My new dr. (the 6th as my husband is military) says that the hardest PCOS cases are the ones which are thin. GREAT!
I just feel as though everything that is known about PCOS is how to treat individual symptoms (i.e., IR, obesity, acne, hirsutism) which I do not have. I just get so frustrated with this whole notion. The only thing that makes me PCOS is a 4:1 LH:FSH ratio and u/s showing 'lots of cysts'. Although, I have read the LOCAH symptoms and seem to have many more of those.
Oh well, I don't guess it matters much.
Good Luck to all those 'thin cysters' who are in my place.

Points: 15,251.91 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 15,251.91 | Despite my healthy appetite and constant snacking, I'm in the "need a cookie" category too--I often get asked if I'm anorexic; in high school one of my teachers even had the guidance counselor call me down to talk about my weight! My symptoms are (usually) anovulatory cycles ca. 35 days long; mild acne/oily skin, hair on my upper lip. Thankfully I've been helped with injectibles & IUI, but I believe prayer, low-carbing & generally healthier living helped support the process. Not to mention luck, which I hope continues.
I really believe that while they are learning more and more about PCOS every day, we thin cysters tend to be neglected in terms of studies as well as not diagnosed as quickly because we just don't fit the "typical" picture--or rather, doctors perceive overweight as an alarm signal, and so we get overlooked more easily. I am lucky to have run into doctors that knew what they were looking at with me & then I took the initiative to inform myself and push for aggressive fertility treatment at an earlier stage than normal. Unfortunately for a lot of cysters, they either run into mis- or uninformed doctors and/or insurance and finances get in the way of them getting the treatment they need.
MSBelle, I want to wish you all the best and that you'll be blessed with your baby soon. |

I just did my second HSG and they found that my right tube is blocked by scar tissue from the two surgeries I have had, but my left is fine. I also was informed that the Military has a few IVF clinics that I can use. Because of where we live they would pay for my flight and most of the procedure and medicines, and I would cover ~$4,000 of it (which is much better than out in the civilian world) and makes this a feasible option. So we have a renewed since of optimism, but are not 'holding our breaths'.
Katja15, I had to laugh at your post because I am ALWAYS asked if I am anerexic or belimic. My mother-in-law took 2 years to convince that I didn't have a tapeworm. My husband is the one who usually takes up for me, as he knows how much I eat and how hard I try to gain weight, so I think that people believe him even when they are skeptical of me.
Good luck to everyone out there and thanks again for all the support!

I'm a thin cyster too and my RE still put me on Glucophage. I am not IR either. He says he can't explain why it works sometimes, but it just does. He often puts thin PCOS sufferers on Glucophage. I was only on it for a month and I concieved my healthly little boy Ryan. Check out my website. He is a little angel and steadily trying to outweigh his Ma-Ma
Now we are tying for #2 and my weight has slipped to low(5'8 and 113-115). I am trying to pack on the pounds before I start Glugophage again next month.

Points: 182.00 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 182.00 | I wouldn't really classify myself as thin, but I'm not overweight either. I was just wondering babsmac if your dr did any tests before putting you on glucophage?
I am just waiting for this cycle to end so I can start provera and my 5th cycle of clomid. I seem to only O every other month and last month I think my lining was too thin because af was very short lived. I plan to go to dr once I get my -ve P4 results on thursday or friday and I want to know what to ask for. Any thoughts?

No, he didn't do any special tests before putting me on Gluc. We check my thyroid often just to make sure that is not acting up. I told him how irregular my periods were (haven't had one since Jan '03) and he said immediately that it was PCOS. I thought it was odd since I don't have any of the other symptoms (overweight, excess hair...) He said he would put me on Gluc right away when we were ready for #2. I'll probably start it next month if I can get my weight up.
Just a question? Am I ever ovulating if I don't have a period? If not, I may be in for a long run. I haven't had a visit from AF in months. My RE said we can try Clomid if the Gluc doesn't work so well this time. I hope it does. Gluc had some pretty nasty side effects (diarrhea), but I heard Clomid can cause havoc with you emotions.
Babs

Thanks for your quick reply! I'm no expert but from what I have read you probably are not O'ing if you don't get AF. But don't let that make you think that it'll be a long road. I have been on the TTC thread for about 5 months and many people there have not O'd in years but with tx have had success.
As for the side effects of clomid, I'm on my 4th cycle and it's really hard to say what emotions are from the drug and what are from ttc. I did read on the other thread though that if you take it at night there are far fewer side effects so that's what I do.
Good luck!!!
Rose
