Hey all! Just thought I'd *finally* make a post so here goes...
My name's Mandy, I'm 17 and was dx with PCOS a couple of months ago after numerous abdo scans and a tv scan. Not on any med's yet as my GP managed to overlook my having any symptoms (I mean HELLO!! Hirsutism, HUGE (lol) weight/loss problems, odd periods, skintags and super pain!)
Plan B:Went to see nurse/friend of family! Mentioned about Met (which I read abot here - thankies!) and she said I was being silly and she'd never heard of it being used....
But she *did* agree to refer me to an endo DR last week...Going back in a month (damn her making me stop the pill...where are my painkillers!) for bloods and oh yes...a Metformin prescrip...hope it works!! : )
Well now I've thoroughly bored you all *giggles* see you around!

Welcome to SC. Sorry you are having trouble getting the docs to take you seriously. Can't believe your friend hasn't heard of using Met for PCOS. It is one of the oldest meds used, and the most common. Hope you get the care you need soon.

Welcome to SC! I had a cyst removed when I was 17 and that was AFTER the DR saw me in pain once; before it was all in my head due to nothing showing out ultrasounds or any other tests. Low and behold when he did a diagnostic lap, there it was, hiding.
Good luck with everything! I'm new to PCOS myself, just dx last Friday.
