My dh was listening to the radio on Friday and he heard something about OHIP covering IVF. Now the only thing I've ever heard was that OHIP will cover up to 3 tries of IVF if you have both fallopian tubes blocked and you are under the age of 40 but that you would still have to pay the meds out of pocket (or through whatever benefits you or your spouse may have). I'm just curious if anyone has heard any thing about this?? Am I wrong and are they changing something??

No, that's correct, as far as I know. I know someone who's currently on the third cycle (due to blocked tubes). Maybe check the OHIP web site for more info. Hth!

That is correct, however, OHIP does partially cover an IVF if the procedure has to be done due to other circumstances. For instance, an IUI conversion to IVF is covered for 1/2 the IVF cost. This is when its non-elective, such as when your IUI cycle produces multiple viable follies and the risk of high order multiples is high. OHIP would rather cover you to do an IVF and have less kids, than to pay for your High risk pregnancy and your preemies when they are born. Then the other half you can claim on your taxes!!
Oh, wow, I didn't know that! (I did just move to Ontario last summer, though.) That puts IVF a bit more within my grasp! I'm so glad mommy1 started this thread!

I personally know that OHIP pays about half of the procedure when multiple follicles are produces and the Dr suggests converting to IVF from IUI. medications are not covered but about half of the procedure was.

One-Hit~ I see you are doing IVFw/ICSI in the Fall. Dh and I have an appt with our RE on July 21st to talk about IVFw/ICSI. When I had my hsg test done last September my RE spoke to me honestly about IVF and said that with our pcos and male factor (and I have only one tube open) that would be our best chance at getting pg. I'm not sure when we'll be starting, depends if there is a waiting list and getting the money together. I am currently working at getting some weight off and I also plan on doing acupunture and massage during that time also. I just wanted to also give you a big *Hug*

One-Hit-- when it happened i was totally nervous and excited all at the same time. i did get pregnant (transferred 2 embryos and got pregnant with triplets!!! both took and one split). unfortunately i lost the babies at 23 weeks (thinning cervix and preterm labour). (and to think that i actually contemplated having 3 embies transferred but my doctor was against it...smart man). with my DD and this pregnancy i got preggo with injections and iui (the iui wasn't necessary but we just wanted to up our chances.)
the best of luck to everyone!

hi, I am going through IVF right now. I have been trying for some time. the Blocked tubes with the PCOS is a double whammy for me.
I know this law has been around for some time. the law is, if you have bilateral blockage in fallopian tubes or if you only have one fallopian and that is blocked than your IVF PROCEDURE is covered. you have to pay for meds and some seman analysis test.
- I dont know what part of ontario you live in, but it maybe worth it for you to come to another city to do IVF, I know alot of people from windsor kitchener and hamilton areas go to London. And its not 3 tries for IVF, its 3 full complete cycle tries, is what you have. That means, you have to have the full embryo transfers, and then if they dont stick. thats one try.
