Default Oil of Oregano

Hey girls - I have Acne on my chin only, but at times it has been very deep, very bad. However, my skin is so sensitive that I can't use most of the face washes in stores!

Well, I discovered a good fix on accident. I had a small cold sore on the corner of my mouth and a friend recommended Oil of Oregano b/c it has antiviral and antibactirial properties. So, it totally cleared up my cold sore and the zit that was next to the area. So, I tried using it at night only on the rest of my chin - and guess what? I don't remember having such a clear complexion.

I waited about a month before posting b/c I didn't want to tell you all about something that didn't really work. I only apply it a couple times a week now.

BTW - if you want to try it - it is kinda expensive - $30 for a small bottle, but you only use one drip at a time. Buy only the wild, hand picked oregano - supposedly it is the only one that works.

My skin is very sensitive, so I dilute it with one drop of virgin olive oil as well (it has a natural "warming" effect that feels more like 'burning" if I apply it right after washing my face.)

Anyway - if it sounds like something you might want to try - feel free to ask me any questions. I lurk over here sometimes, but I am on the ttc board every day!

Hi,
I was really interested to read about your trial with Oil of Oregano as I am always looking for something to get rid of the stubborn little pimples on my forehead. Especially if it's a natural product.

Is the oil still working well for you?

Do you use it every day as prevention or only when you have a spot?

I'd love to hear anything else you've found out.

Thanks,

Vi

It still seems to be working - I have been using as a spot treatment only at night as needed. Right now, I have a deep one under the skin on my chin, so I have been using it every night and it is going away!

I do suggest using it with virgin olive oil. The oregano burns on its own. And the olive oil won't make your skin break out - it will just soften it!

good luck - if you try it, let me know if it works for you!

I run a small natural skincare business called 'Through the Aspens.' So I'm pretty knowledgeable about E.O.s and that kind of stuff. (We make custom skin-care products without any unnatural ingredients (parabens, propylene glycol etc.))

Oil of Oregano works. It's an excellent oil: antioxidant, antiviral, antibacterial and antiseptic. Most essential oils contain those properties. There are better oils for your face than oil of oregano: but if it's working for you keep with it!

There's virtually no difference between wild-crafted E.O.s and cultivated E.O.s. An essential oil is SOOOOO concentrated anyway, that, for most oils, cultivation does not make a difference.

I'm guessing (and I might be wrong) that you paid $30 for a 33ml bottle as that size is the most commonly size sold. I buy most of my E.O.s from this supplier: Cedar Vale Naturals they are much much less expensive than you'll find in any store. A 4 oz (practically an infinite supply when you use one drop at a time) bottle goes for $23.

Edited to say: I also noticed that you use olive oil as your carrier. Olive oil is a great conditioner for damaged, mature and super-dry skin, but if you have acne-prone skin I would recommend Apricot Kernal Oil as it's better for normal-oily skin and reduces skin inflammation more effectively than olive oil.

That's just my 2 cents (that you didn't ask for), so I'll leave y'all alone now. It's just . . . I run a small business centered on this very thing, so I'm a little obsessed with the subject. I hope I wasn't pushy.

Good Luck Ladies!

I went to the Cedar Vale website, but they carry 3 kinds of Oregano Oil. Do you know which one is the most effective? They have Compactum, Vulgare and Thymus Capitus. Thanks!

Snowbunny - Thanks for the extra info! You rock!

You said that there are better oils for the face other than Oregano? Which ones?

I'm going to check out the Apricot Oil!

Thanks!
Bailey

I didn't find Oil of Oregano in Holland & Barratt (for non-British cysters that's the UK's biggest health food chain) but will keep looking.

This is abit off-topic but I recently bought the Eve Lom cleanser that all the magazines rave about. I didn't intend to buy it but the sales lady said it was good for acne-prone skin. I was really sceptical and also quite horrified by the price (42 pounds) but I bought it anyway - I'm prepared to try anything that might get rid of my spots.

I've used it 3 times so far and my forehead looks less congested and smoother. I've still got a few little bumps but it definitely looks better than before. The secret is in the lymphatic facial massage, which is explained in a little enclosed booklet, and the muslin exfoliating cloth.

I was dubious as the cleanser is really greasy and waxy but it seems to be doing the job. However I am going to try it for at least a month before I give my verdict. The reviews for the Eve Lom cleanser on make up alley are mixed. Some people hated it and broke out...hasn't happened to me yet. Here's hoping it doesn't.
