My Mood: Points: 1,418.29 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 1,418.29 | Oily skin---What do you do for yours? I have oily skin and I am getting older and I want to start to take better care of my skin. What should I do? What are some of the things that you girls do for your daily skin treatment? I do still get some pimples too, I thought that I would be done with them by now . I'm almost 29yr old and I know that I need to do something now. I don't wear any make-up, I'm not a make-up person. I quit wearing it after my DD was born,(not enough time), and I never went back. She is going to be 9yrs old soon. My friends all think that my skin looks great, I don't have any wrinlkes and they have started to get them, I think that is because I haven't worn make-up in years. I was told that make-up can age you. Anyway, I just want to try to put the wrinkles off for as long as I can, and I need some kind of daily skin routine. I have no clue what to use or what to do. Any help would be great.
Thanks,
Deanna

Oh and I always use Biore facial moisturizer once a day too to keep my face from drying out too much. And I only wear make-up on occasion because it makes my skin really oil!

Really though I wash it in the shower in the morning, once around noon and then maybe once more during the afternoon, then right before bed, I use this weird chinese soap wrapped in green flowered paper called Bee and Flower or something to that effect, it costs 88 cents in the health food section at Hannaford (New England grocery store chain) i find it works really well to help dry up the excess oil. If I feel zits coming I use cheap Equate (Wal-Mart brand) benzoyl peroxide on my face, by morning they are down and out-although every once in awhile one decides to be resistant. Also every once in a while I will buf-puf or use an apricot scrub to get rid of the "face cheese" buildup and then I use Biore once in a while also to really get those NASTY looking blackheads out (A nice side benefit is that if I use it on my chin I also pull out a few hairs, LOL)

I am bitter and twisted. Expect from me acerbic humour and sharp commentary. While I may seem nasty at first, I'm actually quite good company if I like you, so long as you don't mind a bit of cutting to the chase.

After clensing I use a water based moisturising cream and then just leave it till morning. When I get up I was my face with an unperfumed soap and use Oil of Olay Double Action Day Cream for sensitive skin.
My skin looks best straight after my period and the rest is hormonal.
Hope this helps

Points: 2,668.80 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 2,668.80 | My dermatologist recommended Cetaphil, which I absolutely love. It's very gentle and I use it twice a day. You can find it at any drugstore, Wal-Mart, Target, etc. He also recommended applying a thin layer of Cetaphil and sleeping with it on! Works like a charm - but I only do it once in a while. He warned me about using too many drying products (scrubs, cleansers, toners, etc.) and that I should avoid using products with alcohol. If you dry your skin out too much, it will just produce MORE oil, and I definitely don't want that!

Points: 640.00 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 640.00 | I too have always had oily skin...and I thought it would surely be gone by now...but no! I too am almost 29 and it really is crappy dealing with this every day. My routine is....I was my face 2x a day...in the morning when I take a shower and every night before I go to bed. I also always pull my hair back when I sleep. I have oily hair too and the thought of it touching my face...blah! I wear very light make up and I get the kind that is oil free, fragrance free etc. Also...a make-up and skin cosmetic company called Origins makes a liquid that can be applied under and over make up through out the day to take the oil away. I dont remember exactly what it was called but I bought it at Macys a few years ago. It helps! The best thing that has worked for me though..was the Rx Spironolactone. It totally took the oil away and for the first time ever...I liked my skin. But....I am ttc now and can not take it. Having a baby to me is more important than having good looking skin I guess.

Points: 285.00 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 285.00 | My dermatologist recommended Clinique Pore Minimizing makeup and boy do I have to agree it's the best I've used. I think it was about $15 but the stuff lasts forever! It's water based, and in the bottle it forms layers you can see the color and the water part, it's weird. It's very liquidy so I use a cosmetic sponge to put it on, and it looks great and does make your pores look smaller.
I used to have this stuff from Clean & Clear called "Oil Absorbing Shine Control Mattefier" it's a lotion you put on after cleansing and before makeup, but I haven't been able to find it again and can't remember where I got it. Maybe they don't make it anymore? It was awesome and lasted all day! I loved that stuff!
I wasted money when I couldn't find that stuff on this other one that I found, it's a small tube, Neutrogena "Pore Refining Mattifier Shine Control Gel". I hate the stuff. It's some kind of silicone gel, comes out in clumpy wads, and doesn't spread evenly. Plus I haven't noticed it working. |

Points: 3,177.99 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 3,177.99 | as for external treatment, i use proactiv and this oil free mattifying gel from bath and body works. (it's apart of that C.O. bigelow line...i got it at the semi-annual sale this year, and i don't know if they carry it anymore...i should've gotten several bottles...) it works like a charm. my face used to be so shiny so early in the day...i had to put on powder several times a day and wipe the oil off my face with a tissue or else you'd be able to see your reflection on my nose by noon.
besides this stuff, i take yaz and spiro. ever since i got on these, any acne at all is nonexistant, and my skin is even less oily. |

But when I get the craving for a Mac, I'll eat it. Anyway, I use Green Gel Cleanser by MAC and follow with the oil control lotion. For breakouts or the hormonal monthly zit, I use Mary Kay's acne treatment cream. Works like a charm! Scrubs shouldn't be used often because it makes your skin irritated more. I sloth off dead cells maybe once a month. AND REMEMBER, blot the oil. Yes, blot it with a tissue. My nose still glows but some shine is due to healthy skin.

My Mood: Points: 1,666.79 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 1,666.79 | I use the Proactiv renewing cleanser every morning. I freaking love that stuff and I can usually make two 4 oz. bottles of it last all year because it doesn't take too much. I used to use products in stores with salicylic acid in it and it just seemed to make things worse. The active ingredient in Proactive is benzoyl peroxide which seems to be a lot more gentle, but also more effective. During the summer months and times when my skin needs a more throrough scrubbing, I just buy a tube of Equate Apricot Scrub. I don't like the kind that's medicated though (which I bought this last time...it stinks to high heaven) and the regular kind did just fine. I'm a cheapy kind of person and I hate really spending a lot of money on stuff like that...yet I splurge on shampoos and conditioners...I'm weird like that! lol I buy my Proactive on ebay because I found out after getting the little initial "sampler" thing, that the cleanser was my favorite thing. The toner seemed to just irritate my skin. I do love to use their moisturizer with SPF 15, especially before I put my makeup on. Oh, and I use mineral makeup (Everyday minerals) when I use it just to keep myself from getting shiny. I've noticed that days I use the moisturizer and my mineral makeup (when I have time), my face doesn't feel oily at all, and the moisturizer helps set the minerals to keep them in place in humid Georgia weather. So unless I'm sweating like a pig, I'm good. Today, no makeup...and oily as hell.
I have found out in my quest to find the perfect product that I break out using Neutrogena Oil Free cleanswer, Cetaphil (weird, I know), and Ivory soap. Oh, and Pantene Pro-V Clarifying shampoo...all of those make me break out in teeny tiny little zits all over my face and neck, or where ever it touches when it gets washed off.
*edit*
I just realized, the medicated apricot scrub I have? It has salicylic acid in it...the regular kind doesn't have it. Hmph.
OH, and I just remembered...you know those oil blotting papers? If you don't have any of those...you can step into a restroom and use a piece of the toliet seat covers (unused lol) and those are made of similar stuff and does practically the same thing...just a thought. I prefer the term....crafty. HAHAHAHA
Hope this helps!

But, if I am on a date, toilet seat covers are the best paper blotters ever and they are free. They don't remove makeup and they reduce shine for a good hour or more. |
