as i keep reading im getting highly upset.. tears are running. i dont know why no one has helped me. everything wrong with me has to do with this. probably even my heart. why wasnt a red flag gone up with my dr when i was a teen???? everything but weight gain (i was under 100lbs till i was 18 when i got pregnant)was there. this upsets me. another thing i find hard is that im on government assistance for everything including health care. so far what u all have posted i have too plus some other things too. i really want to know if my daughter (4) could have this. it scares me. im going to try to sleep (i have a hard time with that too) but ill read more about this tomorrow and hopefully call around on monday for a new doctor. another thig i just remembered. i read that the depo shot makes it worse??? i was on the depo shot 3 days after my daughter was born.. after being on it for almost a yr i stopped due to me finally seeing the needle and didnt want it anymore. a few months after i stopped i gained so much weight.. my highest was 165 (im 4 foot 11) then i randomly dropped down to 120 in about 4 months then back up to 150 less than a yr later.. now i am still struggling and everyone tells me to change my diet (i basically only eat fruit and veggies and once and a while chicken.. i sometimes ead breads and stuff but they make me feel sick like i have the flu or something) its frustrating to have everyone yelling at u to lose weight. it makes me cry cuz i once had a PERFECT body and now its so messed up. does pcos make your breasts grow huge too?? i JUST grew to a 34DDD.. big boobs dont run in my family.. where the hell they come from? ok im going to bed now.. night
I think we all have been told at one point in time "you have to loose the weight" its easier said than done. I too used to have a cute little bod.... I was 5'5" and a size 4, then my periods stopped and within 6 months I was a size 14. I too gained some big boobs, and they dont run in my family, I have the biggest at DD. It is thought that PCOS can be passed on genetically though a lot of women say no one else in their family has it. I have never got the depo shot my best friend got it and it messed her up, so I said no way to that. When I first found this site I just read posts and cried for 2 days. All of the ladies here are sooo supportive and kind, you stumbled on a great site here. I have felt so blessed since finding them. I started having problems at 15 years old and only found out at 26 that I had pcos. I have found that a lot of doctors just arent as aware as they should be. I have never beenon Met but as soon as I get health care again I am going to try to get put on it. Most of the women here say very good things about it. And from all the research I have done on it, I think it is worth a shot. Lots of the ladies say with Met and the IR diet they loose weight and some even start having monthly cycles. If you need anything you can PM me.... I am here every day! I have become a SC addict
Welcome to sc, honey . I sympathise regarding feeling frustrated at not having been diagnosed earlier - i've had symptoms (and been complaining about them loudly to my doc) forever. I think a lot of people here have suffered that. I don't get why the first thing doctors say is to lose weight. Do they think that people like being overweight? Do they think that people never try to lose it? It's very insulting really. But hey, you've finally found sc - things are looking up!! there's so much here about what you can do and support all the way. Hope you feel good soon. *Big Hug* Love sarah

hi. thank you! im going to call my daughter's doctor on monday and ask for another diabetes testing be done. i guess more people in my family were diagnosed with diabetes in the past couple months. my dad had it (he died) my mom has it but is controlled with diet, my uncles all have it, and my grandfather was just diagnosed with it.. and on my child's father's side.. her dad has it, her great grand father has it and all great aunts have it. as for PCOS, i have it and her aunt (her dad's sister) has it. so i think i need to watch this little girl. as for me im going to find another dr and start the first visit with discussing PCOS and if he/she has nothing to say im going to find another. i need to fix this. its ruining my life. also im going to have my girlfriend (yes im gay) get checked for it because she too is very much over weight (shes 5 foot 5 and 275 pounds) and shes a hairy woman and has missed periods a lot. i think she goes 3 months at a time with no period and thats how i started as a "normal" period.. and eventually i just got it 0-1 time a yr. if she has this i want to hopefully catch it early so she doesnt have to go as far as i have. im more worried about my daughter getting it and i DONT want her to be diebetic and if she is then i want to help her now before her little body gets damaged. i am so far very grateful that i found this website. u all are my only hope right now and ill do my best to educate myself and others about this.. hopefully a lot of drs will open their eyes.
Welcome dear. I'm so sorry you are feeling like this. I have no big boobs in my family either, and I'm an 36D, and I'm 19!! I'm so sorry about your feelings and the problems with your doctor. Maybe you should look into a structured diet or something so that you will feel better about yourself. I would def. take your daughter to the doctor when it comes time that the Lord blesses her with AF (aunt flow). I wish you the best and we are always here for you to rant on or to talk to. PM me anytime. Have a good day!!!

Hi, I am 4'11" too. I know exactly what you mean about being small and then just gaining a ton of weight. I am at 169 now, and have been for over and year and nothing I do helps.
I also know the fear of your daughter having it. Even though mine is only 15 months, I have already had a talk with her pedi about it. I have also talked to him concerning my son (4) and the risk of diabetis. Just keep communications open with her dr. Print off anything you can find about it, trust me they will not mind. Emma's pedi actually asked me to bring some in for him to read up on since he had never had a patient with it before.
And big hugs too you. I am sorry that this is all hitting you like a ton of bricks. I remember that day all to well. Luckily I found Soul Cysters that very day. This is a great source of information and support. Educate yourself about all aspects of it and demand the best care. Things will get better, the clouds will clear and you will see some sunshine agian. HUGS!
hey thank you. i WILL be making phone calls and printing things out to go see a new dr. i want this start getting under control ASAP. im so sick of it. i feel like crap everyday and its so hard for me to wake up and be with my child. she has to force me up almost everyday.. and i have to fight to stay awake. thats one of the problems i have. and then when i do sleep its not good sleep.. im awake so many times at night.
Yeah, I was told to lose weight also. Not so easy to do with PCOS. I am now on metformin, lets see if this works for me. I have been struggling with my weigh for years now.
Before my first child I was 5' 1" 107 lbs. After her went to 170 (yes I did gain alot when I was preg.)
Before second child I weighed 180 after believe it or no I weighed less but not by much, I was 176
befroe third child I weighed about 180 again and after I weighed 190 but I could not lose any weight after her, I just keep gaining. I am not 222. I have tried every way possible to lose weight and It does not work. like I said before, hopefully the met will work.
You may want to check out the dr recommendations and see if there are any favorites in your area. At least then you'd know you were getting someone who's familiar with PCOS. My first wasn't, and after I begged for testing, she treated me like crap. I switched and my RE actually appologized that nobody caught my PCOS when I was a teenager. I felt like, "finally, someone who gets it".

PCOS and diabetes run in our family, so I had DD's insulin levels check about age 2, and will have her insulin checked again before she starts school. The insulin and diabetes checks can both be done from one blood draw I think, but you have to specify you want BOTH. DD just fasted from the night before the blood draw.
