Red face Ok, 1st pill down the hatch...did you feel

I have had my prescription filled in my purse since 12/12 and I have had such reservations and fear about taking the met. I also take Prozac and I had stopped taking that as well. Well this morning was it, I fixed an egg, english muffin, and small bunch of grapes, drank a glass of water and down the hatch went the pills. My mind is working so fast since I am concerned with what the side effects I am going to have are going to be. Like I feel like I am getting a headache, but I am wondering if I am willing myself a headache because of fear. I am suppose to be taking 1000mg a day, however, I took the 500mg pill and split it so I can ease into this. How often should I eat, when should I take the next 1/2 of the pill?

I am proud of myself to finally have the courage to take the pill, I am just concerned and anxious of the unknowns of what taking the met is going to do to me.

Thumbs up Don't be scared!

Hi christy!

you will find a lot of support on these boards as we all know how nerve-wracking it is to start met.

i personally started 4 weeks ago and have not had ANY problems with it. i started slowly like you did. (500 to start). I am up to 1000 daily now and still don't have any problems. the only 'issue' i had when was i had a piece of pizza that i knew i shouldn't have had. i have laid off the carbs and surgars as well; so i think that's why i haven't had any problems. the first day i felt sort of strange, but honestly, i think that was all in my head. don't be scared. read all the posts regarding met. don't let people scare you off though. most people that don't feel well on it don't alter their diet in any way and suffer from the horrible effects. (not i). i feel great, have so much more energy and have lost 13 pounds in one month. only 37 more to go!!

low carbs, lots of veggies, lots of water, sugars to a minimum, wheat products when possible and you should be good to go!

keep us posted!! congrats on taking your first dose! that's the hardest one!

Same with me, no side effects!! I am really careful with my diet. One time I had a piece of pizza and I also paid.

So I totally believe that people who are having side effects are not as careful as they should be with the carbs, grease, etc. The benefits of Met are waaaaay better than any piece of pizza. You learn very fast that bad things will happen if you deviate.

Nothing to fear, you can control your own side effects with a little will power. Also there is not much will power needed really. All of my cravings have subsided completley.

I felt the same way as you. I started taking met about a week ago and I had it sitting on the counter for a few days before I started. After reading the boards I got so worked up and scared about the side effects that I was really freaking myself out. I also had taken it a few years ago and quit after two weeks. This time has been really different. My last doc started me at 500, but my new doc started me on a little over 200. I take a 850mg pill and cut it into 4 pieces. My doc says to slowly increase it as I feel comfortable and take as long as it takes. I know 200 mg isn't going to do much, but ultimately, if it gets me comfortable with a little at a time, that's what is important.

Good luck!

Good for you starting met finually. Don't worry about having side effects. If you worry about it all the time, you will start thinking everything you feel must be the met. I am on 2000mg daily and I started out on 1000mg daily. Another thing that might upset your stomach is dairy. Good luck and I hope the met works for you...
