Question Is it ok to take all your Met at once?

My doctor told me to take 2 in the morning and 2 at night. (500 mg. each). However, I have been taking them all at the same time. What do yall think?

It might be okay to take them all at once. Run it past your doctor though, there might be a very good reason why you should be taking them seperately. I was on regular Met and there was no way I could take them all at once without having minor blood sugar episodes or major side effects.

I was told to take Met XR in two doses because, though it's extended release medication, it's not a 24 hour release, it's only about a 12 hour release. Taking it all at once leaves your body for twelve hours without metformin after having had a day's worth in the first 12 hours.

I take 1500 mg each day and I found that one in the morning with breakfast and two in the evening with supper (generally a larger meal) seems to work best for me.

maybe that is why I have been so nauseas. Hopefully it will help when I start taking some in the morning. Thanks!

I just wanted to add that I was taking mine altogether as well. I wasn't really having any side effects, but I also wasn't seeing any results. So I split them up (I take 1500) one in the morning and one in the evening, and I've seen the inches and pounds begin to fall off. Just wanted to let you know!

I work in pharmacy and you should not be taking them all at once. Like the other said, it will peak in your system and only last 12 hours, so you are not getting the full benefit of the drug, you are basically wasting it. You need to have a steady met level in your body to have a noticable effect.

Thumbs up

I use to take all 1500mg with dinner. This morning I split to one in the morning and two with dinner. Thanks for all of the info! Hopefully my side effects won't be so strong, and maybe I will start to see some changes with it now!!!

hmm... i wonder if i should try this? i do not have any problems with my thyroid and am not IR, but the met didnt do a thing for me. my dr slowly upped my dosage to 1000mg, but i am not sure if i was taking it twice a day or not (i stopped back in april due to lack of results).

am waiting to get an appt with endicronologist. wonder if i should try it again in the interim. i'm blowing up a like a parade float :>
