Charcoal, lighter fluid, and matches/lighter always do the trick for us! Pile it up, soak it, torch it. Then of course you have to let it burn down before you start to cook. Unless you enjoy that burnt to a crisp taste! Hope you enjoy your BBQ!

Don't feel bad. I have only done it once before because I am terrified of open flames. Another good idea is to get the charcoal briquets that all you have to do is light the bag. It will probably take about 1/2 for the briquets to be nice and ready to cook on.
Good luck to you. Better yet, have Dh do it. Men like that sort of thing!
thank you for all your replies! i think i will just let DH do it. i am scared of fire, lol

I've never done it either because DF feels like it's his right and his duty to do it. Men.

We also get the bag where you just light the bag and don't have to worry about lighter fluid. I always take aluminum foil and put it over the grill and punch a few tiny holes in it for the greese to run down. I make the hamburger patties up ahead of time at home, then stack them in a plastic covered dish. I just scoop them out with a metal spatula when I get there.
Don't forget to take hand wipes and paper towels; they are great on picnics. Have fun
Yep to all above - just make sure your coals are nice and white before you start cookin' Enjoy!! Have a burger for me. FYI: I had salmon on the grill over the weekend and it is now my fave way to have it - - coming from someone that refuses to eat most seafood - this is a major accomplishment.
