Since I have been taking Junamet, I am very seldom hungry. My mom and sister in law are both diabetic and insist I shouldn't skip meals but what do you eat if you are absolutely without appetite and nothing sounds good?

Your mom and sister are absolutely correct. Do NOT skip meals!! Google Liver Dump and you can read about why.
I never used to eat breakfast, so that's my hard meal -- when I'm not really hungry. Slim Fast Optima chocolate shakes are the most common thing I have....it's all the nutrients and carbs of a full meal but it's like drinking a nice glass of chocolate milk.
I also like V8's, which also have all the carbs and nutrients of a meal.
Making homemade smoothies is another option -- if you google smoothies you'll find so many recipes it will boggle your mind.
I also have a Yoplait Light yogurt some mornings.
So those are some light breakfast options that can also be used for lunch. But yes -- it is very important that you do NOT skip meals. Actually, you should be eating five times a day, you should be having snacks in between your meals so that your metabolism runs at a nice steady pace and doesn't spike and plummet all day long.
Also, getting more excercise will help to increase your appetite.
I agree with you Saille
Breakfast is my hard meal as well. What I've gotten used to is the Special K cereal bars... dont know if it has all the nutrients I need, but its quick! lol
Saille- Does the V-8 splash (fruitty) drinks provide all the essential nutrients?

I think so, but I haven't really tried those yet. But they're made of the same base that regular V8 is made of (carrot juice) only with a variety of fruits instead of veggies.
I know the V8 Fusion drinks have WAAAAAAY too many carbs for me....there's like 38 grams of carb in one serving....which would be my entire dinner! lol But for somebody on a less tight carb allottment that could be breakfast.
Breakfast is the hardest meal of the day for many diabetics and many with insulin problems because of Dawn Phenomenon.
For those of you in SparkPeople stop by Living With Diabetes and say hello!
I'm a very picky eater. I cant eat eggs, and I want to go lo-carb... what could I eat for breakfast??

Here is a thread about Dawn Phenomenon on the type 2 board at the ADA's website....there is a good discussion on it there. Actually, if you keep looking through the pages it comes up fairly regularly as it's a common problem for many diabetics.
And here are some more links that go over the information -- I like the ADA site because being a discussion board you can post to the threads and ask questions and discuss it with other people who have dealt or are dealing with it, but these other links are informative:
A Slim Fast Optima Chocolate Shake
A Slim Fast Optima Muffin Bar
A Fiber One granola bar
Kashi breakfast cereals
Dannon or Yoplait Light Yogurt
Oatmeal (if I'm going to be active)
2 pieces of Friehoffer's Soft'n Tasty Whole Grain White bread with Peanut Butter
a V8
Any one of those things will usually do me for breakfast. I was always one to skip breakfast and sometimes I wonder if that didn't help bring me to where I am today. I think maybe part of what messes us up wasn't just what we ate, but our portions and our meal timing and meal skipping....all forcing our bodies to function erratically.
Ive always been told not to eat when you arent hungry thoug. Is there no truth to that? Always eat 2 or 3 times daily?

The best is to eat all meals and snacks in between. Never let is go more than 3 h between meals.
The body isn't to be trusted. I don't get hungry I do get really nasty if I go to long without food.
Research has shown that obese people in general don't eat breakfast and they tend to eat a lot in the earning. When the body's metabolism slows down.

Even if you don't feel hungry you need to eat on a regular schedule as often as humanly possible; at the very least you need to get three square meals a day, you should get at least two snacks in there, too.
You don't have to eat a lot -- a square meal doesn't mean a large meal. One of the slim fast optima shakes is considered an entire meal! So there are ways to get around that not hungry feeling.
Saille...
I thought we should stay away from sugar with the I.R. (slimfast vs non-sugar atkins).
I'm soo confused and my nutritionist isnt really helping either lol
Is it safe to say we should not fast.
(Mister heard something about fasting on some radio show and wanted us both to try it... I said no not a good idea).

These proteine drinks isn't really a fast in the real sense. If only use protein drinks you will get loose weight with ketos metabolism. Same as with strict atkins. That can be helpful as a first step for really obese people and other who need a kick start. But it's not a long time solution and you will gain if you don't change your way of living.
Protein drinks can also be used instead of meals in your ordinary diet. That can be handy if you have a stressful situation an don't have time to prepare proper food.
Proper fast is as I see it a fancy way of starving.

You should not cut carbs out of your diet 100% if you have any form of metabolic syndrom unless you are doing so under the supervision of a dietician.
There are about 30g of carb in a Slim Fast Optima shake, which is sufficient carbs for a meal for most people.
I dont recommend trying to do the Slim Fast diet as a whole, because diets fail. It's lifestyle changes and eating habits we want to change. But for many of us skipping breakfast was a very unhealthy part of our old habits -- and a very important thing to change. Breakfast really IS the most important meal of the day and one of the hardest meals to balance properly when you have IR or T2.
If you're used to skipping meals then things like Slim Fast Optima shakes are handy because it provides the nutrients, protein and carbs of a meal without having to actually eat a meal. As your body gets back into balance you will most likely find yourself actually hungry to eat a meal instead -- but until that point you need to put something good into your body.
Something to remember, though, when you're using slim fast or similar products -- they have a LOT of vitamins and things in them -- so pay attention to what suppliments you are taking at the same time so that you aren't putting too much of something in your system. When I was drinking slim fasts for breakfast regularly I only took my multivitamin every other day.
Fasting, for a person who has a normal metabolism, probably won't do them any harm. For those of us whose bodies don't metabolize properly fasting is NOT a good idea. Our metabolisms are already messed up, and depriving it of fuel is not the way to get it working properly again.
To get your metabolism working properly you have to keep track of what you're putting in your body to eat and drink, find where your problem areas are (for most of us -- carbs) and teach yourself portion control and how to get the right amounts of what you need.
