Default Omaha Ob/gyn

Dr. M. Fleming with Creighton Med Center.

She is fabulous!! She treats quite a few women with PCOS and is very non judgmental....she never once told me i was just fat (like 8 of the last 12 drs I have seen have told me)

Rohan,

I am curios why you went to see her. Is she just your Ob/GYN or is she treating you for infertility? My GP happens to have PCOS so I am happy to see her, although I think as a GP she may not be as up to date on PCOS research as say a OB/GYN might be.

For fertility, I have been seeing Maud Doherty. Not pregnant, but I think she is very knowledgable

Anyway, just curious. Don't see many people on here from Omaha. :-)

I thought I was the only Omaha person here !!

I went to see Dr. Fleming b/c I am TTC. I went to her for two reasons 1) My girlfriend (w/PCOS) went to her and got preg (but sadly miscarried). 2)Dr. Fleming is also a professor at CUMC and I had met her on campus (im in pharmacy school). She is really interested in PCOS and is so non-judgemental. Like I said she is the only dr I went to who didnt start with...well you are obese...

She is wonderful and I love the nurses and staff in the office as well.

Default Omaha Dr!

Dr. Thomas Hilgers at the PPVI institute is incredible!!! He is very knowledgeable and really does everything he can to help. I have been struggling with symptoms for a year and a half, but couldn't find a doctor who would listen to me.....it took 6 doctors to finally figure out I have insulin resistance!

I was going to post a thread asking if anyone knew of a good ob/gyn for me to see here in Omaha, until I seen this one.

I'm not TTC yet, but possibly next year. Dr. Fleming sounds wonderful, although she just treats infertility???

I'm not too familiar with the area yet. [Here for a little over a year] I'm so confused and really don't know where to start. I was even thinking of getting on BCP for maybe a year, but not sure if that would mess up any progress I've made with gaining my cycles back.

Who would you recommend I see?

Any opinions would be wonderful. :]

I really really recommend Dr. Hilgers at the Pope Paul Institute. However, he will not prescribe the bcp....he WILL however help you find out EXACTLY what is going on. The bcp can cover up symptoms of serious issues (which would make it very difficult to conceive whenever you might decide you want to have a baby). He will run very specific blood tests and everything to figure out exactly which hormones you are deficient in and how badly you might have insulin resistance.

That being said, if you do not like Dr. Hilgers, I did like Dr. Legino at Mid-City Ob/Gyn. He would prescribe you the bcp if that is what you decided you wanted. He missed diagnosing the insulin resistance/pcos but he was very nice and did notice my progesterone deficiency that he was going to try treating. He also was going to get me on the bcp. And also I just want to say that I've been to many female ob/gyn and none of them did my annual exam as painlessly as he did. That much I did appreciate.

In the end though, I personally don't believe in bcp, but I know that is a decision everyone has to make on their own. But is why I ended up going to Dr. Hilgers, and he was the ONLY doctor out of 6 that I've seen that has found my insulin resistance and that I very well might have PCOS (it has taken a year and a half of symptoms to get this diagnosis!). I think it is wise to be on your guard when they prescribe the bcp without checking to see exactly EVERYTHING going on. Otherwise it can only cover up everything like a bandaid and when you go off of it to try and get pregnant, you may end up getting ALL the symptoms back and having trouble conceiving.

That being said I do know some woman are happy with the bcp, I just think it is important to make an informed decision with choosing that route (as well as being aware of the risks associated with taking estrogen). But those are two different doctors I'd recommend! Let me know if you have any other questions!

Default from Nebraska too!

Hello all! I am from Lincoln and just joined this site. I am going to be seeing a dr in Omaha in January...Dr Maclin. I don't know if she is knowledgeable about pcos but she is a fertility dr. Have any of you heard of her? My boss went to her to get pregnant. Nice to see some Nebraskans on here!

Hi Ladies!!

I have heard of Dr. Maclin although I've never seen here. I believe there are only 2 reproductive endo's in the Omaha area: Dr. Maclin and Dr. Doherty. I have heard Dr. Maclin is more touchy/feely while Doherty is more business like. I've had 2 IUI's with Dr. Doherty. While I like her, her PA is kind of rude. My acupuncturist, Donna Huber, has done seminars with Dr Maclin so I think she is open to alternative treatments, while Dr. Doherty just kind of shrugged acupunture off. That said, if you look at their IVF success rates (which you can research on the CDC website), Dr. Doherty has double the success rate that Maclin does.

Anyway, I would love to hear from anyone who has seen Maclin first hand.

Melody

Dr. M. Fleming...I didnt think she was so great! Shes very nice and so is her staff, but she didnt listen to me. I told her I thought I have PCOS and she said she knew I didnt just because my luth. hormone is under a 10. Brushed me off at that and now wants to do a DandC with out even checking to see if my hormones are out of wack. I know they are because is August my testosterone was at a 90. Just thought I would post so that anyone un diagnosed does not wast their time!

I strongly suggest trying to get in to Dr. Doherty there in Omaha. She ran the appropriate blood work and was able to DX me after initial visit. I did have to see her PA for initial visit but Dr. Doherty was present at clinic and we were able to meet her, etc. on first visit. I have only been seeing her for a month and a half and am going to start stimming in a about 10 days for IVF prep!! I have never had a problem with their clinic, nurses are wonderful, understanding, and willing to explain everything 10x over if that's what it takes to make you comfortable.
I would be glad to answer any questions about experiences with their office. Just let me know!!

I went to Dr Maclin & Ramey's office (heartland clinic), did one round of IVF, and I got a BFP. I would definitely recommend them.
