*Edit - okay, first off, fish oil is not the only source of Omega 3 Fatty Acids. Flax, hemp, and evening primrose are also valuable sources. There is concern about mercury levels in fish oil capsules.
The following is taken from an article about EFA's (Essential Fatty Acids) from Alive Publishing. It's a start, anyway. Still looking for more info... Quote: |
Calcium absorption is increased in our bodies when combined with EFAs, and is important in preventing osteoporosis and maintaining strong bones. EFAs have also been shown to facilitate insulin function for diabetics and improve T-cell function and immunity. Research is being done on multiple sclerosis, attention deficit disorder, depression, schizophrenia, PMS and menopause. These studies show supplementation can improve symptoms. Pregnant women should have sufficient levels of EFAs in their diets as fetuses require high levels for growth and brain development.
