Default Omega 3

Does anybody take omega 3 fish oil? I am just curious what exactly it does... I know it helps keep a healthy heart... but on the ttc board there is post that it might help reduce IR..?

I am working on getting an answer for you, with some research to back it up. Hang tight.

*Edit - okay, first off, fish oil is not the only source of Omega 3 Fatty Acids. Flax, hemp, and evening primrose are also valuable sources. There is concern about mercury levels in fish oil capsules.

The following is taken from an article about EFA's (Essential Fatty Acids) from Alive Publishing. It's a start, anyway. Still looking for more info...

Quote:
Calcium absorption is increased in our bodies when combined with EFAs, and is important in preventing osteoporosis and maintaining strong bones. EFAs have also been shown to facilitate insulin function for diabetics and improve T-cell function and immunity. Research is being done on multiple sclerosis, attention deficit disorder, depression, schizophrenia, PMS and menopause. These studies show supplementation can improve symptoms. Pregnant women should have sufficient levels of EFAs in their diets as fetuses require high levels for growth and brain development.

I take a multi oil from GNC with all the omegas in it. It has helped suppress my appetite and I don't crave carbs or sugar as much.

I read in SchwartzBein's book that it helps with insulin resistance.
