I have read that Met causes hair loss.
I have read that Met does not cause hair loss.
I am taking Met and now have a very thinning scalp.
Does Met cause hair loss? Or is it just the PCOS? |

My Mood: Points: 5,326.70 Bank: 4,632.37 Total Points: 9,959.07 | Before I started taking met in Sept 06, I could stop the water from going down the drain while I was in the shower with all the hair that was falling out of my head. Since taking met, I have only a few strands that fall out, nothing that can stop the water from draining.
So in my case, I would say it's the PCOS that causes hair loss not the Met (just my opinion though).

My Mood: Points: 9,160.67 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 9,160.67 | I noticed that when I first started Metformin that it seemed like I had more hair coming out in the shower than before and I became terrified. I have thick natrually curly hair and it has been the one thing that I have always liked about myself regardless of weight or other syptoms...so I started taking a daily multi-vitamin, and an omega-3 supplement (or fish oil tablet) and I have noticed that my hair is as thick as it always was and even seems to be more healthy and shiny even though I blow dry it every day.

My Mood: Points: 3,569.08 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 3,569.08 | I went off the Met and my hair has stopped falling out. (I was also taking B Vitamin supplemets with Met so I wouldn't be deficient.) My hair feels like it is thicker and in better condition now. I really believe the Met caused my hair loss. Be careful with it! |

My Mood: Points: 690.00 Bank: 9,932.53 Total Points: 10,622.53 | I have not had any problems with the metformin and hair loss. Actually, I believe less of my hair is falling out now that I am on the met. Before I was put on it, my beautiful think hair was thinning and even balding in the back. I'm starting to feel back to normal now and still on the metformin.
GOOD LUCK!!

And I never lost any weight while on Met so it really was not worth it.! |

My Mood: Points: 3,569.08 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 3,569.08 | I also did not lose any weight on the Met. I never got my period either. While on the Met, I could see right through to my scalp on the top. Now I am noticing regrowth around my hairline.
I am still continuing my Vitex now, in hopes that it will help my period come. |

My Mood: Points: 358.22 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 358.22 | I noticed my hairloss got worse when I started met. I was also taking a vitamin b complex supplement. I read that met stopped the body absorbing calcium which in turn stop b vitamins doing their job. After a few months of taking a calcium supplement as well as b complex my hairloss dramatically improved. |

My Mood: Points: 572.35 Bank: 12,762.16 Total Points: 13,334.51 | Met has definitely helped with the hair loss! Hair was my bigest and most concerning symptom of PCOS. I found that taking a Vit B complex and extra B12 helped improve it even more!! I thought for awhile I would have to start looking into a hair system to cover my thining scalp, but with diet, exercise, Met and Vit B's and Many many prays things really improved in 6 months!
