Default One dr said I have cysts another said I don't??

When I had my ultrasound on my ovaries, my doctor doing it said I definatly have multiple cysts on both ovaries that would cause my PCOS symptoms and pelvic pains. When I went to my follow-up a week later, the doctor (a diffrent one) said I have "normal" cysts that shouldn't cause problems. So, I am confused. The doctor that said they were normal was the one that dx me with PCOS in the first place so she knows I have it and should know to keep an eye out for cysts. So, the question is... do I or don't I? Should I get a second opinion?

Unless you have any unusually large cysts, there isn't much that they really do about them. It is totally normal to have more or less cysts at different points in your cycle- sometimes lots and sometimes none at all. Its also possible to have PCOS and not have any cysts at all. So if you are not have any major pains or anything it's not an issue and not unusual for cysts to be there one week and not the next.

Whether you have cysts or not is not a matter of opinion. Either you have them, or you don't. Based on what you wrote, in the body of your post, it sounds like both doctors said you have cysts.

Cysts are not typically the 'cause' of the majority of pcos symptoms. Cysts (from pcos) ARE a symptom. As Fairy pointed out, not all women with pcos have them.

Here is more information on pcos diagnosis. My suggestion would be to read through the information then sit down with a doctor and ask specific questions based on what you read here>> QUICK LINKS: Getting a PCOS Diagnosis & Understanding Lab Results

The second doctor told me that they could randomly apprear and disappear, but the first told me that the cysts were definatly abnormal. I don't have major, constant pains, but I do get occasional sharp pains on either side down there that last about 15-30 minutes. As long as they aren't a major health risk, I will just regard them as normal.
Thanks everyone =)

I went through the same, being DX then being told they were not, then being DX again. They can do some bloodwork to see if there are any other underlying symptoms that are PCOS relevant.

I would STRONGLY encourage everyone to read the information in these links so that you have a better understanding of the PCOS diagnostic process, as well as, the different types of ovarian cysts:

I have had all the bloodwork done and had pretty high androgens and all the classic symptoms (excessive body hair, wacky periods, skin tags, seborrheic dermatitis, weight around the waist) I have been diagnosed and have meds, it was just the cyst thing I was wondering about.
