I would like to add that there is a very good depression-support site online, depressionforums.com. I have found it very helpful in my battle against depression.

Lightbulb DEPRESSION CAUSES & TREATMENT...

Hi All..

I found this site which provides signs, symptoms and indicators; conditions that suggest it; risk factors, etc... For example...it lists several hormones that might cause depression....low serotonine, high histamine, low testosterone, low estrogen, hypothroidism, low melatonin, and low pregnenolone...

Also...it states, "A carbohydrate-rich diet helps the body produce serotonin - the "happy" hormone. Special serotonin foods include oats, wholewheat, bananas and other carbohydrate-rich foods."

NOTE: ONCE ENTERING THESE LINKS DON'T CLICK ON THE "CLICK HERE BUTTONS..."

http://www.digitalnaturopath.com/cond/C6105.html

I've also read that an estrogen/progesterone imbalance (estrogen dominance) can also cause FIBROIDS. Also, too much estrogen can impair the bodies ability to control glucose levels....

http://www.digitalnaturopath.com/cond/C8769.html

Hope this helps someone....

Default DEPRESSION & FREE TESTOSTERONE(ANDROGEN) LEVELS...

Hello All....

According to this article, "The classic symptoms with which women with low testosterone present include loss of well being, persistent fatigue and blunted motivation in tandem with diminished libido. Conservatively these are also classic symptoms of depression. So one must consider this carefully when evaluating each woman. However depression affects one in 4 women but only one in 10 men. We hypothesize that the fall in testosterone during the reproductive years may contribute significantly to the symptoms diagnosed as depression in many women."

http://www.jeanhailes.com.au/health_..._androgens.htm

I have also read articles where testosterone patches have completely cured some women of their depression...

Lightbulb Testosterone: Sexual Elixir and Estrogen Booster?

Hi All...

This abstract discusses the fact that testosterone in addition to improving sexual function, raises circulating levels of free estrogen in the bloodstream.

They also discuss the fact that, "Some menopausal women need testosterone supplements as well as conventional hormone replacement therapy to restore their sexual vigor. “Aside from its role as sexual elixir, testosterone may improve concentration, lift depression, and restore the overall sense of wellbeing most women enjoy until they reach perimenopause."

Again, I am rather facinated by the possible link between testosterone and depression...

Default newsgroups

For people who use newsgroups I've found that
alt.support.depression.recovery and
alt.support.depression.recovery.sanctuary

have been great resources for comfort for me. They are smaller and not full of trolls like alt.support.depression

the sanctuary one is even moderated for people who want further protection.

I post at both on a daily basis.

You can read them through at google.com if you want to and don't have a newsgroup account.

Thumbs up POTATOES NOT PROZAC...

I recently ran across a site called www.radiantrecovery.com. They have a 7 Step Program that I have been trying for my severe depression. I have tried all of the steps and feel better. The first night I had my sweet potato as a snack before bed time with brown sugar twin and vanilla flavor. The next morning I felt as if I was sedated or something...strangely calm. All throughout the day I also noticed the calmness. Get the book from the library and try the things they suggest...please! They have a lot of great suggestions on the web site for meals and tons of stories about recovery and weight loss...

It has really helped me.
