My Mood: Points: 2,890.80 Bank: 101,673.82 Total Points: 104,564.62 | Only 3 doses....I feel like crap! I took Met last night, this morning and tonight again....and I already feel like crap! I ate pancakes for breakfast w/syrup of course and I was on the pot for almost an hour!:o I took a generic Amodium (sp?) and that helped. Did my breakfast combined w/Met cause that reaction?
Ever since this morning my stomach has been knotted and it feels like it's twisting and turning. GRRRR!! I fell like crap!
Any suggestions?
TIA ladies!

I know your pain! I thank God my doc was kind enough to start me on a low dosage of met (500mg) BUT I STILL live on Amodium & Pepto! I cringe when I read about you girls taking 1000 - 1500 mgs b/c I know that she will be increasing mine at the end of this prescription and I know what's in store!
I do take a 2 Amodium & I chew 1 Pepto before I go to bed so that I can function the next morning... that seems to be working for me... for now any way. Maybe someone else will share a remedy that has been working for them!

My Mood: Points: 16,689.62 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 16,689.62 | metformin Okay, so you should really be eating a low carb and very low sugar diet.
When you eat carbs, they should be unrefined, whole grains. IE. instead of white flour pancakes, whole wheat pancakes.
A lot of the ladies on here use the IR (Insulin Resistant) diet to help with their PCOS. You could try reading up on that also.
Do a search for metformin side effects, there a lot of really good suggestions on how to minimize the side effects.

My prescription is for 30 days 500MG 2X daily. Should it only be once a day?
I'm def going to start watching what I eat more. I haven't even really been hungry since starting Met. I've only eaten when I have to take Met cuz it has to be taken with food. Any of you have a loss in appetite?

My Mood: Points: 13,779.98 Bank: 383,119.40 Total Points: 396,899.39 | To answer your last question...I have no apetite whatsoever on Met and I force myself to eat to take the pill. I have been very fortunate and only had problems w. my 1st dose and on each of the increase days. I feel pretty good if I do not eat too much, and I can't really handle anything to sugary or starchy. I seem to be craving fruit though! I have not lost weight yet, although I think I am going to get af for the 1st time in 5 months and I am getting 5 months worth of pms at once! Just try to watch what you eat, eat 5-6 small meals a day. Also, be sure to drink enough. I do get dehydrated more quickly and feel sicker if I am not drinking enough.
Hope some of this helps! |

Points: 918.37 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 918.37 | My doctor assures me that the symptoms will go away once your body gets adjusted to the medication. She did tell me though that it can take up to 8 weeks. I tried taking Glucaphage a few years ago and never got adjusted. I just recently started Glucaphase XR (extended release) and take 2000 mg daily (1000mg in AM and 1000mg in PM). It only took about a week to get over the side effects. I still have days that I'm on the pot for an hour in the morning, but they are coming fewer in between.
Good luck to you, and hang in there.

My Mood: Points: 16,093.50 Bank: 51,726.50 Total Points: 67,820.00 | I promise, the side effects DO go away...PLEASE stick it out, it will get better. I started met WAY back in 98. I felt HORRIBLE prior to starting met! I can't even begin to explain how every part of my life/body felt just horrible, and how much better I feel on met which makes LIFE so much better. The side effects ARE worse if you eat a BIG carbohydrate meal such as what you had. Definitly MORE protien and lower carbs. I just had my met upped to 2550 from 1700 and BOY was I feeling it this week, so I completely understand. Good news is I am feeling better now after 5 days. I hope it helps! Good luck!
