Default Only Spiro?? Stroke w/Yasmin

Has anyone tried ONLY spiro? I was on Yasmin and had a mini-stroke (30 yo non-smoker) so can't be on the pill anymore.
Anyway, has anyone had success with ONLY spiro? I was on yasmin and pill for about 2 months when the hair STOPPED!!! But then I cut down/later stopped the spiro (still on pill) and develped the TIA(mini stroke).
So now I have been off ALL meds for about 2 weeks and the hair is back with a vengence.
So how about it? Anyone notice a reduction in hair growth with ONLY Spiro and if so---what was your dose?
I am 104 lbs and was on 50mg twice a day....now will consider restarting on 100mg twice a day.

Any advice would be appreciated--very desperate and disappointed that I cannot take the pill(Yasmin).

Hi there i know what you went through i had a stroke from provera back in 1992 at the age of 16. If you need to talk i am here. As for spiro for hair growth i wish i could take it but my RE dr said i can't take it due to where i got low blood pressure now. So sadly i has to shave eeryday.

Post Spiro

I am not Diabetic or insulin resistant but Metformin has helped most of my PCOS symptoms, except the hair loss. It is relatively safe, compared to BCP.
I added Spiro about 3-4 months after starting Metformin to help with the hair issues. I had taken 200mgs a day for over three years. It helped with the acne and the facial hair did grow in much slower. I still had the hair loss.
I took the Spiro/Metformin combo for over three years. I felt great, but I was still unhappy with the hair loss.
My new Endocrinologist Rx'd Flutamide a year ago. It stopped the hair loss and I have regrowth on the top of my head. I still take spiro, but at a much lower dose (50mgs) He says that the Flutamide works differently on the DHT than spiro.
Maybe you can do a trial run of Metformin. It brought my Testosterone numbers way down on it's own.

Im only 50 mg of spiro 3 times a day. since startin it, my hair growth has stopped a lot. ive never had to shave..but i always used nair and such..usually once a week. im down to using it once every other month on my face. i still tweeze about once a week..so its not as bad as it use to be! ive only been on it since dec...first startin 50 mg a day for 3 months, then up to 100 mg a day, and just upped to 150 this last month.

hi, I couldnt take spiro due to the fact that it lowered my blood pressure too much and gave me an irregular heartr beat . I was on 100mg a day. Watch out if you start feeling dizzy and out of it. good luck.

I forgot to ask before did your dr mention metformin for treating your pcos. I been on it for almost three years now and it has help my pcos in so many ways. I was so scared to try any meds after i had my stroke but back in 2004 i felt so awful i knew i had to do something and am i ever glad i did.

Just remember that ya really shouldn't get prego on Spiro...

I would watch the BP on it too.. mine went to low.. just a couple thoughts.

Sorry to hear about your stroke on BCP....
Hope you find somethings that do work for you.
