Default Only Taking 250mg Meformin Daily

I'm only taking 250mg of Metformin daily. It looks as if everyone else is taking at least 1000mg.

Will 250mg do anything for me?

Maybe my dr is just starting me out gradually since I just got diagnosed a couple weeks ago.

Yeah I would think he is just starting you low, You are actually suppose to end up taking 2000mg daily to get the full effect of the drug.

250mg does sound low to me, but I've read of people doing great on 500 mg and some people having to go up to 2000mg. The average therapuetic level is 1500 mg but it really varies per person. I am on 1000 mg and have no need to go up more since my insulin resistance is getting better. I would talk with your doctor though because it does sound pretty low.

I agree, that dosage sounds low. Did your doc mention anything about increasing the dosage every couple of weeks? I started on 500 mg/day for a month and then jumped to 1700 mg.

My doctor has me on 250mg bid...so I take it in the morning and evening. I feel like the dose is low because even with exercise and proper eating I have lost hardly any weight. I saw the doctor last week and asked for a referral to see an endocrinologist and was told that they don't deal with PCOS. I know that is untrue because I called one in my area and asked. I don't think my dosage is right for me but I am not getting any where with my doctor right now. She said there is no reason to increase the dose unless I was TTC.
