Default only use low-androgen BCP'S

Check this out from the American Hair Loss Association:

The American Hair Loss Association recommends that all women interested in using oral contraceptives for the prevention of conception should only use low-androgen index birth control pills, and if there is a strong predisposition for genetic hair loss in your family we recommend the use of another non-hormonal form of birth control.

Below is a list of birth control pills ranging from lowest androgen index to highest:

Yasmin, Yaz, Dianette-35, Desogen, Ortho-Cept, Ortho-Cyclen, Ortho Tri-Cyclen, Micronor, Nor-Q D, Ovcon-35, Brevicon/Modicon, Ortho Norvum 7/7/7, Ortho Novum 10-11, Tri-Norinyl, Norinyl and Ortho 1/35, Demulen 1/35, Triphasil/Tri-Levien, Nordette, Lo/Ovral, Ovrette, Ovral, Loestrin1/20, Loestrin 1.5/30

I was prescribed the pill Dianette. But my doctor said with my minimal symptoms and no need to lower T, I didn't need it, and if i didn't want it, i dont have to take it. I also get periods so I dont need the pill for that either. I have some excess hair and apparently Dianette will block any androgen activity. But does the pill stop body hair growth if its genetics? I'm guessing it only works if its hormonal...

And just wondering why on earth high androgen BCPS would EVER be used?

Hmmm. . .I can't help but wonder if the higher androgen BCPs could/do increase libido.

Also, some BCPs (Yasmin, Yaz, Diane) contain ANTI-androgens. It all depends on the pill.

^My mom had a friend who took TESTOSTERONE to increase her sex drive. And she started developing male pattern balding. Obviously she had a genetic disposition to it.

Personally, for me, Ortho Tri was the most androgenic pill I ever met. It has tons of bombing unopposed estrogen, which can also cause hairloss (see sig). And the Diane family of pills isn't approved in the USA.

they also forgot Nuvaring--which is probably somewhere between Yasmin & Desogen. It's really low estrogen!
