Exclamation Oops...MET decreasing appetite TOO much ??

With recent news about awareness of anorexia, and recent deaths of fashion models due to this health problem, it seems it is the subject of the day talking about eating disorders.

Of course, I still have a good 20 pounds to loose so I am not at all in the situation of these skinny models, but I have noticed that having MET decrease my appetite, has been also producing a considerable change in my eating habits, some very good because I am loosing the pounds, but also I need to be aware to control them.

I am not hungry AT ALL some days. I have to force me to eat breakfast, lunch and dinner, and sometimes I feel like throwing up after eating, not because I want to, but because my stomach does not want the food.

That has happened to me before ( when I was in a very strick diet 2 years ago, I was barely eating - you know, those nasty diets which starve you to death - my stomach was so used to eat in small amounts, that in the end I was barely eating at all, and if I ate, I felt nauseated ).

I am taking vitamins, of course I love to see the weight loss each week, but I worry a little that the though of food repels me...

I do force me to eat as I do not want to end up anorexic.... before fatty - now anorexic is not the plan !!

Anyone suffering of the same situation with MET ?? if so Girls, careful, do not let your body get used to stop eating...

Thanks !!

That happened to me for the first couple of months and I lost almost 20lbs but my full-fledged appetite eventually came back!

It's a relief to know that my appetite will be back eventually!
Thanksgiving was absolutely miserable for me...even the smell of the turkey cooking turned my stomach and I was hardly able to eat anything. Seriously, I usually can eat something in the morning for breakfast as long as I keep it small, but I have no appetite for the rest of the day!

Hi girls

Well same here... I can usually have a regular breakfast ( cereal, or bread and one egg, juice, coffee ) this is the only time of the day when I have appetite. At lunch I usually just take some bites at a steak or will only eat some soup. At night, a glass of non fat milk and maybe a piece of bread.

I am taking vitamines to compensate. However, I have heard that the most important meal is breakfast, and it is better to eat well your breakfast, a regular lunch and a light dinner. If this is so, then so far I can still have a good breakfast, I should be OK !!

So, appetite comes back in time ? how long was it for you Ssbee until you recovered your appetite ? I do not want to get mine back yet, until I have lost all the pounds, but eventually I will need to eat normally !!

Just curious girls : what is that you feel when presented with food ? you feel repelled ? nauseated ?

I have this sensation in my belly like when you are sick with intestinal disease or virus, when I think of food I immediately feel repelled from it.

And boy, it is not nice at all to force yourself to eat. It is the worst sensation !!

Oh and I forgot to ask as well in my previous post.... Is MET something to be taken for life or only when TTC ?

I am not IR but I fear that if I stop the MET I will go back with irregular periods and weight gain. But I also heard MET can cause liver and kidneys damage... anyone know for how long or if it is for life ??

I used to have the same problems but it stabilized over a few weeks...at first the weight came off at an alarming weight too but that's also stabilized. However, the thought of some foods still makes my stomach turn...mostly fatty or sugary stuff. I don't know if that's the met or just the long term effects of diet though.

I think met is safe for long-term use, given that it's original purpose was for people with type II Diabetes (the reason I'm on it, actually). Kidney and liver problems are rare. As long as you get regular blood work done it should be OK. However, if you're not diabetic and are on metformin only for PCOS, I don't really know what your Dr's policy is.
