Default Organic food

hey all,
I'm one confused person when it comes to food. I joined WW, but decided I liked doing it better w/o the meetings anyhow, I tried being a vegetarian, but I found I liked eating organic meats more than being a vegetarian. There are some vegetarian things I like such as the Morning Star chicken patties (the best, taste just like chicken).

I found one company that has organic beef, does anyone know of any companies that have organic chicken and turkey? I refused to eat or drink anything that came from an animal that was given extra hormones and antibotics. We even grow our own veggies and fruit now. We're ttc so anything that I wouldn't want our child to eat, we won't eat.

Laura's Beef is the company that makes organic beef. Any responses are greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

My Naturopath has me on a completely whole foods diet, organic as far as it's reasonable. I've been able to find organic chicken and turkey at Albertson's here, under the Foster Farms label. In your area, you might want to ask around, and see if there are any natural foods/organic food stores nearby. People at places like GNC, health clubs, etc., might be able to help in this regard as well.

Bon Apetit!

Edit:
Here's a link to a list of natural foods places in Georgia. If you scroll down a bit, the list pops up. Hope this helps

Thanks for the link. I'll check it out.

Brandy- We don't have any of those stores here. There maybe some near Atlanta.

I don't know--there are local farmers around here that have organic meat, but I don't know about chains. You could check to see if you have any local organic farms.

btw, since you like Morningstar things, I do highly recommend the Morningstar spinach artichoke bites and broccoli cheese bites, and the buffalo "wings" and the corn dogs. When I first went veggie I didn't like any fake meat, but now I like a lot of Morningstar things. I still can't cook tofu very well, but I can do tempeh

I tried the chicken nuggets, I don't like those, but the chicken patties are way better. hmm..

In Atlanta, you can get hormone-free meat at Whole Foods market. There's a big one on Roswell Road near 285. My guess is that many of the larger Publix or Kroger's will have some selections, too, but WF will ABSOLUTELY have it.

Are there any stores similiar to World Market in Tacoma or Federal Way WA? Is there a website I can look at to check? We're being transferred there and I think we're gonna be moving to Federal Way. I did find Whole Foods Market in Seattle near the U of WA.

In some places you have to go to an actual butcher shop. Its quite a bit more expensive but you can get very high quality meats.

Well I'm in Atlanta and although I would love to afford organic meats, veggies and fruit I cannot at the time but I do know where it is.

Kat is right about the Whole Foods Market. There is also one on Ponce de Leon.

Your Dekalb Farmer's Market has a lot of organic stuff as well and more reasonable.

And as for Trader Joe's, a new one is coming and being built in Atlanta in the next month or so, so yip yip.

Is Harry's farmer's market still open? There's probably some well-priced organic food there.

I'm not sure what stores are in WA. I know there's a Fresh Market here and Publix has an Organic Section, the selection is very small, but they have one. I did find a list of stores in WA that sell Organic foods. What do you all eat if you're on the road? We're taking a road trip to WRMC and WHMC and I don't wanna stop and eat at a fast food place. I know burger king has veggie burgers, but I haven't had one yet. Any suggestions?

Harry's natural meats are by no means well priced. We simply can't afford to eat them. Yes, though, the one in Alpharetta is still open, as is the one on 120 in Marietta.

There is also a natural food store across the street from Harry's on 120 (I buy my bulk dry goods there as they're MUCH cheaper than Harry's). Life Natural foods.

Sorry pumping.

Judge on hold.. Gotta go.

ETA: The DeKalb Farmer's Market scares me. I question the cleaning practices there. It's gross.

I just want to share this little tidbit about organic produce.

You know, sometimes it's difficult to tell if something's organic or not--particularly at stores that stock both organic and conventionally grown foods. So if you want to know if your produce is organic, genitically modified or conventionally grown, all you have to do is look at the sticker on the produce.

Conventionally grown produce has a sticker whose numbers are only 4 digits long.

Organically grown produce has sticker with numbers that are 5 digits long, always beginning with the number 9.

So, if you're looking for bananas, a conventionally grown banana's sticker would read 4011; an organically grown banana's sticker would read 94011 and a genetically modified banana's sticker would read 84011. I have not seen any genetically modified foods in my produce section, so I don't think they're all that common.

Genetically modified produce has a sticker with numbers that are 5 digits long, always beginning with the number 8.
