I have not tried the patch... but I read once that the patch is a good option for women who experience loss of libido when they go on the BCP. The reason is, since the hormones are administered transdermally instead of orally, they bypass the liver and somehow this results in the patch causing less of a rise in sex hormone binding globulen (SHBG) then the pill. SHBG is what limits the effects of excess hormones in the blood, including testosterone, on the body - and this can result in the diminished sex drive that many women experience on the pill. However it is the increase in SHBG that also results in less acne, hair loss, etc for a woman with PCOS - so I concluded from that article that the patch would be a poor option for a woman with PCOS. Just using my noodle there, not scientific proof. Interested that you had a bad experience with it... maybe I was right!

I used it for a while back in 2002. I can't remember having problems with my PCOS. But I did have a problem keeping the darn thing on my skin and not on my underwear.

I tried the patch several years ago because i was tired of taking the pill after many, many years and wanted to try something new. My OB advised that I probably wouldn't like it, especially in my climate...Panama City, FL, but he wouldn't stop me from trying anything.

I hated it!!! Humidity or not, it didn't stay on. Band-aids stay on better! But there must be women that love it so, try and see if it works for you. I was mainly afraind that with corners peeling up I was getting all the medicine and might get pregnant. That was way before PCOS diagnosis - sounds kind of silly now!

Hope the info helps you make a decision.

Good Luck!
Nicole
