I took TriCyclen for a lot of years...from the time I was 19, until my dh and I decided to TTC when I was 27. I never had complaints with it. I had no noticeable weight gain that I could've attributed to the TriCyclen, and my skin stayed reasonably under control.
After I had my dd last year, I went back on it. Big mistake. From the time that I'd had my dd to the time I started TriCyclen (about 10 weeks), I'd lost 40 pounds. My skin was great. I wasn't overly depressed. And I was actually having normal cycles every 32 days, even without Metformin. But when I went back on the TriCyclen, I gained 40 pounds within a short amount of time. I started having cystic acne, which I'd never really dealt with before. I had constant breakthrough bleeding, and always bled through weeks 3-4. But the worst were the migraines.
So, I saw my GYN today to try something else, and my migraines tipped him off and he has decided that I can no longer be on hormonal BCP, as the migraines are a neurological symptom, and BCP can increase the chance of strokes in situations like that.
I hope it works for you! Like I said, I thought it worked fine for me for the first stretch that I was on it--it was after I had my dd that things changed. Good luck!
