Hello everyone--
I'm new to the board. I'm 17 year old Texan, sophomore in college, majoring in studio art. I was diagnosed with PCOS February 2004, but had symptoms since 2000. My mom took me to my PCP back in 2000, but they didn't help and told me if I lost weight everything would be fine.
Finally, I went to a GYN last year and was tested and diagnosed. My GYN said that I had caught it early because my insulin resistance hadn't affected my periods yet, which is a good thing. Anyway, ok. I'm trying to give ya'll some background.
When I was diagnosed I was put on Met 1000mg 2x day and Spiro 25mg 1x day. I've lost around 35 lbs which is amazing for me since I was never able to loose weight before. My insulin levels were 24 when I was first diagnosed and now they're at 8. My testosterone was 77 when I started and now it's down to 44. So That's amazing news. Its sort of sad to think that I'll always have PCOS though.
Ok, so finally to my point. (Sorry!) I have extremely painful periods that are very heavy. My GYN gave me Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo to help regulate my periods and help with the heaviness and painfulness. I've never been on any form of BC before but I'm hoping it will help me.
Has anyone taken this BCP? What side-effects did you experience?
My main concern is nausea and weight gain. I'm nausea almost every morning from my Met and I don't think I could stand more nauseousness. Thanks for ya'lls help.
I am on that BCP. I haven't really experienced any BIG problems with it....No nausea, definetely! The first month I took it, I spotted a lot because my body was regulating to it. The second month, there was less of that. You said your periods weren't affected yet from the IR, so you probably won't spot at all! My boobs were sore during the third month, for whatever reason...And that's the only real side effect I've experienced that's kind of annoying. I'm on my fourth pack now, and they're still sore!! Not as bad as last week though.
All in all, ortho-tricyclen lo isn't too bad. Good Luck with it!!! (Oh yeah...As of now, no weight gain either!)

Thanks for the help. I do have another question, did you experience any mood changes? I've never been on birth control so I'm just trying to prepare my self. thanks again
My dr. started me on ortho-lo because i had not had a period in four months. It was supoosed to regulate me and didn't work. I also had a bit of nausea, but while i was on it i still bled very heavily and with tons of pain. I am not trying to rain on your parade, i hope it works for you.
