Ok, so I go to a doc and get the prescrip for ortho tri cyclen po. I don't get my periods with any regularity, so she said to start taking them today. Got it. I did forget to ask her this, and I don't want to be a pain in her backside because I have already called her like five times today.

When you start taking it without a period to start it off, is it still a week before it becomes effective? Or is it gonna be a month?

I am using it mainly as birth control, so I don't really care about anything else it is supposed to do. I am going to see my dh overseas in a week an a half and well...I don't want to buy condoms.

We recommend in our office using atleast 2 weeks but that is when you start on the first day of your period, otherwise 1 month of backup. We have seen a LOT of pregnancies off of OrthoTriCylen, either when patients do not use backup or miss pills. Good luck though.
