I began taking Ortho Tri-Cyclen (regular) when I was 15 years old. I had no problems back then other than the fact that I was (only slightly) chubby. I stayed on it until I was 20, when I decided to take "a break." Big mistake. 6 months after I stopped taking it, ALL of these PCOS symptoms flared up. My skin got bad, I became hairy, I gained weight - I felt like crap. So, I went back to the doctor in November to get back on the pill, and she insisted upon giving me Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo to begin with rather than the regular-dose pills. Prior to my beginning the pills, I hadn't had a period in 9 months, I had bad acne, and I was having to pluck my face every single day. The change I've experienced since beginning the pills is remarkable - in just the first two months, my period regulated again, my skin cleared up, and I've only had to pluck TWICE in the past two months. I still can't help but wonder though - would the benefits be even more noticeable if I went back to the regular dose? Or is there no documented difference in the effectiveness of regular-dose Ortho vs. Lo in treating PCOS symptoms? Just curious!
