Question OT: STD testing

Since we are in the beginning of the TTC journey, I want to be sure I am free of any STD's. I don't have any symptoms, but want to be sure before I get pregnant. To make a long story short, when I went to my visit for GYN, I told them I wanted to be STD tested. I ended up having a very quick pelvic exam, and along with PCOS bloodwork they ordered the Chlamydia and Gonorrhea tests. My question is, what about HPV, Syphyllis (sp?), HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis (A, B, C, and any others there may be), and any other STD's I'm forgetting? How do they test for those?

The only STD tests ive had done are the ones they have given me. MOST of the STDs they test for they do while doing the pap smear..at least thats how it was in my case. As far as HIV/AIDS go, that is a blood test. You have to specifically tell the dr that you want it, or you can get those HIV tests over the counter at like walgreens. U have to take a sample of your blood, and send it in, and call a number and they will give u your results over the phone. With going to a RE, they will normally test you for all of that. I hope that helps a bit

HIV tests are also done buy saliva tests. For insurance purposes (life insurance and some medical insurances) they just do a saliva one.

The other STDs are tested for with your blood work. I am suprised that they didn't order the others too. You should just ask, because maybe they are included in the rest.
