Default OT: Visually impaired and not sure where to go

Hi everyone,

Due to a brain hemmorhage (that also triggered my PCOS - fun fun!) I am blind on the right side of both eyes and can't drive.

At the moment I live in a pedestrian/public transit-unfriendly city (much as I like it in other ways) and I need to move somewhere that I can get around without having to take taxis, carpool with friends, or have to wait endlessly for the paratransit bus to pick me up.

I had thought of moving to Denver which I heard has a good subway system but supposedly it doesn't. The only two cities I know of that I've heard have comprehensive public transit systems are Chicago and Philadelphia (my brother lives in Philadelphia/goes to U Penn) but I don't know that those are the best places for me - especially crimewise since I can't see well in dark areas (and also because I grew up in South Florida and get somewhat depressed when it is dark/grey/cold for very long periods (I live in NC now - sunny a lot of the year).

My aunt in Austin is encouraging me to move there but I heard they don't have the best transit either (I visited her a few times and couldn't tell for sure one way or the other).

Anyway, if anyone has some good tips or suggestions I would appreciate it! Thanks in advance! Have a good weekend
