I'm kind of surprised to read all the posts about people taking Ortho-tri-cyclin, Triphasel (sp? for both) or any other pill that has three different weeks of hormonal levels. My ob-gyn basically said he would write me a scrip for anything else I wanted (I tried Yasmin first, acne city!) but that the multi-phase ones were a complete no-no for women with PCOS. Has anyone else been told this? He's an infertility specialist as well, and seemed to know a great deal about PCOS. I had come to my appointment armed with all kinds of info, ready to fight for what I wanted, and didn't even have to bother, it was nice! I will say that's it's sad that I have to take up appointment slots that could be filled with women who are TTC, just because the 'regular' ob-gyns around here seem to believe that PCOS is some kind of made-up joke.

Yes... tri=phasic pills are supposed to be bad for women with PCOS because they don't provide a consistant dose of hormones throughout a "cycle" which means your own crazy hormones aren't so consistantly controlled.
That said, however, OTC was one of the few pills I don't recall having caused me any problems! Then again, at the time I was on it, I probably wouldn't have known what to look for... I was new to BCPs and knew nothing of PCOS, just that something wasn't right with me...

Could you help me find resources, then? The OTC is *not* helping my acne, *not* bringing a regular AF, it's *not* stopping the follices from developing, and *not* helping me with the horriffic mood swings. It is giving me breakthrough bleeding once a week, and skewing my emotionas so that life is harder than it should be.
I asked my doc about going on a monophasic pill, but she said the OTC would "mimic what [my] body should be doing naturally."
Please help me collect as many resources as I can so I can bring them to her (and her partner in the office, who is easier to work with) and hopefully in a month I can get back to a monophasic pill.
Thanks!

Print up some of the research articles on this site. There's tons of them! I don't know of any about mono vs. triphasic pills though. My doctor is the one who told me about it. I could ask him specifically why next time I'm there though. As for taking OTC, if she can't respect that you don't like taking it, I'd find a new doctor. And I'd TELL her why I won't be back. Tell her OTC may mimic a normal woman's body, but it's creating a nightmare for you, and if she won't prescribe a monophasic pill for you, you'll find a doctor that will. Jeez. What, is Ortho giving her kickbacks for prescribing it? (one of my best friends is a doctor, his stories about pharmaceutical companies are horrific!) Deciding what's best for EVERYONE and prescribing it across the board is ignorant and arrogant IMHO. It's not like you're asking for crack or anything.
